I was watching an f16 demo at MLU this weekend and I was amazed at how loud they were. Granted, we were on a balcony viewing area and I’m thinking that the glass and aluminum are great reflectors.
But those things are loud even out in the open.

Thanks

If you think the 16s are loud, you should hear the f-35s

I remember seeing f16 TBirds fly over at Barksdale. They were really cool.
Blue Angels Hornets also sound awesome.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how opening up the afterburners on a plane that is sitting still on the runway doesn't automaticlly shoot the damn thing into the water/sky.

No brake in the world should be able to hold that much force...

Maybe more than you really want to know but overall sound pressure level (OASPL) scaling really strongly with the Mach number of the exhaust. Something like M^8 for subsonic jets down to M^3 to supersonic jets, I think it gets even worse with high temperature jet cores ( NASA Reference)

With that kind of scaling the amount of literal power in just the noise itself is scary.
