So I’ve only been on this planet for 35 years, not that long compared to others who have seen a lot more and experienced perhaps better days that are now long gone.

My question for the OT this evening is this: When did the United States of America begin its decline? My position is that WW2 era America was the peak, we were the greatest country in the world and we knew it.

So when did we become a country that was no longer the greatest? When we became a country where inner cities crumbled, crime soared, drug addiction ruined many, our economy faltered, and inept leadership made things even worse?

Party was over and everyone got in everyone's shite. Politics became foremost importance and the music industry that had been going to shite since 1998, fully went to shite.

LBJ and his damned "great society" put a long acting poison in this country. The effects get worse by the day

I used to think it was the 1960s or maybe later under Clinton, maybe Obama

But I think it’s when they didn’t let Patton get rid of Stalin

Post-WWII, with the seeds beginning in the 1910s.

It's safer living in America than most of the world.

There's no decline.

Go to bed, grandma.

I’d have to say in the 50s. It’s a deep rabbit hole but everyone at the top has connections going way back. It started with the early intelligence agencies and the CIA perfected the art of manipulation soon after.

There are very concrete reasons why the US was a leader after WW2. Mostly, because Europe and Japan were in ruins. The US used the war to ramp up manufacturing etc. This got the US out of the Depression and since it wasnt in ruins, the US was able to speed ahead of the rest of the world. The result was the 50s. But Im not so sure things were so awesome before the 40s. Certainly the depression wasn't. And before that the US was still a burgeoning country, just getting able to be a leader on the world stage.

The 50s provided those who lived in it a lot of jobs and the explosion of the middle class suburbs. At some point, the rest of the world repaired itself.

My question is, was the 50s an aberration? We tend to look back at is as who we are. But really, maybe it was just a honeymoon of sorts.

Mid to late 60s and 1980 are inflection points for a lot of negative trends
