To be successful, I think it needs to be a brand that was bought out and then completely shat over by the new out of town owners.

K&B (Rite Aid)

Schwegmann's (National A&P)

Hibernia Bank (Capital One)

Other gone brand names have good products under new names. Tastee does a fine job keeping alive the best of McKenzie's. Dillard's has done a fine job replacing DH Holmes and Maison Blanche.

Campo has made a comeback but it is nothing like it used to be.

Been there, a relaunch hasn't worked yet.

It was working and was rather popular during its' short re-run, then the city's #1 Golddigger bowed to the altar of woke.

I can't feel sorry for Schwegman's. John Schwegman was tired of being dogged out by The Real Superstore all the time took the bait and bought out the company. Then a few years later had his loan called by the bank when the bank got nervous. Only problem was that when it happened, the bank did not have a firm commitment from another grocery store chain.

Rouse's isn't a bad substitute for Schwegmann's. Would definitely like to see K&B make a comeback.

I’m not young and my K&B memories involve my great aunt bringing me to buy a gallon of vanilla ice cream. So you probably are chasing dirt.

No. The giant Schwegmann's on Old Gentilly was the greatest store that ever existed.

The States-Item

Threw it starting at 11 years old!

My first route was both sides of Bonnabel between the I-10 and Vets, then two streets either side. My second route was the West side of Bonnabel, Hesper, Hesiod and Beverly Gardens from Metairie Road to Homer. I threw that strip mall where Blue Line Cafe, Oscars and Zocalo are today. The only customer I had there, though, was the old man who ran Cuban Liquor, which is long gone.

Klondikes Bakery was there, and that’s where we all gathered Sunday mornings after throwing the Times Picayune Sunday paper (The SI didn’t have a Sunday then, and it was owned by the Picayune). What is now The Little Red Schoolhouse was a movie theater and the Majoria Drugs was a Giorlandos grocery. Back then Majoria Drugs was about where Porter and Lukes is today. There was also a Morgan and Lindseys five and dime in that strip by Porter and Lukes.

Everything has changed since then, except St Catherines and Sals Snoballs. Even Metairie Middle (Haynes) just got torn down.
