Per Google:

woodcutter

Sawyer is a gender-neutral occupational name of English origins, meaning “woodcutter.” The name originally found fame in Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer, as an ever-mischievous and adventurous little boy. Sawyer also received a revival in the noughties thanks to the eponymous character in the cult TV series Lost.

Pronounced:

"Saw-yer"?

or

"Soy-yer"?

Never heard of a girl named Sawyer. But with all the weird shite people are naming their kids nowadays, it would not surprise me. As for pronouncation, I’ve always heard it sounded out the way it’s spelled, namely “Saw-yer”.

Always sounds hick beyond belief to me.

"Soy-yer"?

How it actually comes off the tongue, unless you're from Grant Parish.

Predominantly boy name, though I doubt anyone would raise an eyebrow if a girl were given that name. I like the name. My son's middle name is Huckleberry.

Soy-er

Sometimes our words and how we pronounce it, I do not get it. If it's pronounced Soy-er, why not in the hell just spell it that way from the start?

Nothing against you and your post.
