I’m not looking down on the parents or you. That’s noble and shows ambition and work ethic.
But in the richest country in the world, it’s not a good sign that people have to have 4 jobs between 2 parents to be able to make a living.
People used to work one job per household and afford to have a good life and even buy a house.
Things have gone south

Have fun with those 15 dollar McDonald's hamburgers.

So does McDonalds. Ooops
It’s only one of the the largest employers of minimum wage workers in the US with Walmart and Yum! Brands.

100% complete opposite. Back in the day only a dad needed to work 1 job and mom stayed at home. It's today that both sexes work and sometimes multiple jobs, but I know those over 50 years older as they descend into end of life can't help but have the view "Eherhrrrr backkk in muhhrr dehr everyone was working for $2 an hour including me and my brother while we were still in the womb"
Facts
Dudes were leaving higschool to go sell VCR's for a living and were able to afford a mortgage, car payment, stay at home wife, 3 kids and a couple vacations every year.
Now BOTH parents are working 60+ hours a week and can barely make ends meet.
CoL relative to pay isn't anywhere near what it was back then which is why I immediately discount people who use the "back in my day" argument.

Corporations have teamed up with the government to create this weird 4th branch of government. Mix that with just the insane amount of government spending and you get this absolute shite show.

They did more than make a living though. You're assuming they did that just to get by, which is not how I read it.

So make money worth even less, what could go wrong

Weird how all of the ones around me start people at $10 plus. Maybe all the hiring signs are lying though.

Used to have a quarter pounder index. Last one I found was from 2013
Juneau was also a top ten most expensive city at that time.
McDonalds shut down one location, Subway shut down two of its three locations. Thats all the fast food we have.
Looked on the app, Big Mac is $7, meal is $12.

Companies are begging for workers, and raising the min wage does nothing but keep poor people from advancing.
Its supposed to suck bad, and its also supposed to give you motivation to improve.

For some reason you think I’m arguing for a livable wage or to increase minimum wages.
Thats a symptom of the problem and not the cause. Increasing minimum wage won’t fix anything.
The problem is with mega corporations forming monopolies and running small businesses out of… business.
And the government (both sides) make allowances for these corporations to frick us all as long as they get their pockets lined and their dicks sucked.
Top down and not bottom up is the way to approach the problem.

People in this thread arguing in favor of living wages/minimum wage laws simply do not grasp what a wage even is.
In market economies, a wage is determined by the marginal value of the product you produce.
If you want to help people who happen to work in low wage jobs, you do it by raising EITC, universal basic income, etc.
You don’t do it by pricing employees out of labor markets
You cannot wave a magic wand and make someone worth more than they actually are (in terms of economic value)

So kill them then. Let them die if they produce less
