Having now lived and worked in a handful of these mega metros, they're all just starting to blend together. The real reason most Louisiana folks ultimately like DFW is because it's close enough to wherever they're from that they can pull a feasible extended weekend to visit family. Their chainlands are no more nice or unique than other mega metro chainlands.

Moved to DFW back in 89 and went to work for EDS back in the day. Lived in Plano, and ultimately moved to Frisco in 93. Lived in Frisco, watching it grow from a small Texas town of 5000 people to a busy thriving city of 260K plus.
Wife and I had always planned to move back to Louisiana upon retirement, and when covid hit, we both began working from home, housing in DFW took off to the moon, so we decided to cash out and move back to Louisiana early. We are very happy to be back surrounded by family, no traffic, and living in the country. I still commute back to DFW every other week for work for a couple of days, but is very doable. I do miss the variety of restaurants, etc. but do not miss traffic and crowds of people. Glad we made the change.

I visit South Florida often and I'm always ready to leave after a few days.
If I didn't need a car, I'd have absolutely no problem with a giant metro.

They are completely redo'ing everything that touches the stadiums, starting the old arse mall area off North Collins.
360 also getting redone and partially made into a Toll (or essentially extending the current 360 Tollway north).

There’s a perfectly rational explanation. Suburban Dallas is the most soulless, least interesting place in North America. It’s the type of region where people go out to Buffalo Wild Wings and Dave and busters for their recreational activities. I remember watching the Dr Death podcast, and the Duntsch guy it was about had a ton of money and would go blow it at the bar at the ‘upscale’ Holiday Inn in Plano. That’s basically suburban DFW in a nutshell.

That's pretty much all suburbs in the South, not a Dallas thing. It used to be Hooters.
Now it's all outlet malls, boba tea, yoga pants &Texas Roadhouse....I couldn't ever live in the burbs. Too boring and nothing of character

I’m over there all the time. From what I can see the area around the stadiums is very touristy but you don’t have to get very far away to find ghetto. I will say the area around the college is being gentrified.
If you know somewhere to buy homes cheap that will rise in price, please let me know.

Every major suburban city is the same now
Colin County is great. Most people don’t drive to Dallas or Fort Worth and deal with traffic. Everything you need is in your bubble.
Only go to Dallas for concerts or sports and they are building a 20k amphitheater in McKinney as we speak.

it's funny how much Louisianians hate Texas. Born and raised in LA and live in TX and just like this board, any time i go home people tell me how much they hate Texas. They also hate Atlanta as well.
I know Dallas, Austin, Houston, and SA are nowhere near as nice as Baton Rouge and New Orleans, but for some of us is a great place to live and raise a family, and the economy is booming. Is it a great place for a party or bachelor weekend, probably not. But everyone I know stays in their suburban bubble so it works for us.
To each is own.

Former resident of Allen here, would go back in a heart beat if my parents didn't need help. If I can find a decent job and a house with granny flat, I'm leaving Lafayette as soon as possible.
I can deal with the traffic and big city as long as there's plenty of jobs and a government that is functioning. Something every place in Louisiana lacks.
