Can you trade her in for a real dog?

Don't see any pit in her. The ears and shape of head remind me more of American Bulldog.

Our wonderful boxer died and soon after we started visiting a local shelter to adopt a pup. The shelter told us they had a boxer-mix that we'd love. We adopted her. She was a beauty. We had three kids at the time ages 5, 7 and 9. The dog would show her teeth and tuck her tail around my 5 year old. We ordered the DNA test kit (it was around Christmas and they were running a 50% off special). Test came back 50% pit. I never would have thought it. We found her a new home the very next day. We had her for 10 weeks. Would have kept her if we didn't have kids. Be super safe.

You'd keep a dog around that shows signs of human aggression that's literally one of the only time giving them the old yeller treatment is remotely acceptable.
No. I am not talking about some blood thirsty monster. I mean if it's a bit snappey at all it goes to guard a barn in the middle of no where. There are literally more cows in my town than people so good barn dogs can find a home.
Just cause a dog shows food aggression or may snap if you startle it you ain't gotta put it down. I've had several that wouldn't make good house dogs be awesome barn dogs. Remote barns are prone to being robbed...but not if a dog is barking

That is a pound dog. Go to the shelter and rescue a family dog like a German shepherd. They’ll love the kid instead of eating her face
Bru! Shepards aren't family dogs lol. They can be....but they can also be the most sketchy dogs you can imagine. We have one guarding a barn that can snap on another dog just because the other dog is also trying to smell something it likes.
Tbh.... from my life experience shepards and chows can be dangerous asshats.

I had a chow when I was a teenager.
Haven't seen one in decades.
Their fur is bad news in Louisiana.

She is doing good today. The family keeps wanting to name her but I said her name is currently "probation". I won't consent to her being a family house dog until she has a while to settle in and see how she acts.
Thus far 100% good girl. Her only weird behavior is sort of being skeptical of food and then eating it down so freaking fast she nearly chokes. Probably just from being starving and never regularly fed. When she is eating I can take the food away and stick my hands all up in her face with no sign of aggression.
She got eggs and bacon for breakfast this morning. Hand fed her the bacon and she was super gentile

Yeah it's weird. Back in the 80s chows were all over the place but I don't see them anymore. I've got a scar on my thigh from a chow. Our other dog is black with a curly tail and the first thing I did was check her mouth for purple ??

Good man
Are you in Louisiana or the deep south? Definitely appears to have some pit bull to me, but the majority of dogs in the south do.
I have two pit bull mixes that are very dear to me.

I am not a dog breed expert but I think she may have some beagle in her. Beagles are wonderful family pets and tend to be very good with children.
Now that you mention it her expressions do remind me of a beagle.

Central Arkansas on the north shore of Lake ouachita. Been lucky in that we have never had a pit show up here. All the ones I see are usually with tourists.

I see more Jack Russell in her

Depends on who will care for the dog.
You?
Good to go.
Me?
No way.

Please. Most mixed dogs have some pit or staffy in them if you run a DNA.

It s not so much the size or shape of the head that make her look like some kind of pit mix, it’s the taught, tightly stretched skin over the forehead and “cheekbones” that make her look pit-ish to me.

Beautiful dog
I’d keep it

I see beagle, jack russel, and maybe some lab. Standard issue Heinz 57 mutt, some of the best dogs in the world.

Thank you for being responsible and good person. I feed all of my dogs separate bc they have a right to eat in peace from humans and other dogs. I’ve got a couple who wouldn’t take kindly to it. A Pyrenees mix, food aggression is in their genetics.

How is she doing? Are you still thinking about keeping her?
