Local Lafayette Musician has passed away.
--
The Louisiana music community on Saturday was mourning the death of Lafayette’s Dege Legg, aka Brother Dege, a Grammy-nominated musician and writer born and raised in South Louisiana.

Legg, 56, has been described as a Southern-swamp-psych-rock musician turned neo-blues man. He caught the break of a lifetime in 2011 when Quentin Tarantino heard his song, “Too Old to Die Young,” and used it on the soundtrack of his film "Django Unchained."

Being included on the soundtrack helped Legg move from conventional jobs he’d done for years to making much of his living through music.

Legg, who has a BA in philosophy, worked as a cab driver, dishwasher, journalist, manual laborer, warehouseman, mechanic, driver, line cook, and a caseworker in a homeless shelter in order to support his artistic compulsions.

Yes he bought the house in November and then must have taken a gig overseas bc he listed it in February and we jumped on it. A house in bendel. The realtor texted us this morning. No telling how long this will play out but I am sincerely sorry for his loss. He seemed like a very influential person for our heritage

It was intentional. I’ll leave it at that. RIP.

That's a bummer.
I was a big fan of Black Bayou Construct.
Throwback to the old 307 venue days.

Dege is LSU thru and thru.
Freshman Dege used to dress like a break dancer and actually practiced his fly popping and locking in front of the Union.
Then we got skater Dege the next year. Got himself some baggie shorts and Vans to do skateboard tricks in front the Union. Used to drag that thing into astronomy class, too.

Took himself way too seriously and he did rob the LSU student healthcenter pharmacy. Opiate Wars Casualty

Astronomy class was fall 1988. Double D Allison Deas sat next to me and Dege sat behind me. Where were you?
