Remember when they used to have those signs saying speed monitored by airplane?

And there would be stripes every so often across the road. Was that fake? Did anyone ever get a ticket from that?

Yes my buddy got pulled over in Alabama by a trooper who said he was clocked by plane. Don’t know how it’s legal really but I know nothing about how it works.

When av gas was less than $2 a gallon and flying for max fuel efficiency it really didn't cost that much to run a 150 or 172 and do this.
Probably get 9 gallons an hour.

A friend that I worked with got a ticket like that years ago. They just timed you hitting the stripes. He said it was pretty darn accurate as to how fast he was going. It was on the basin headed to Lafayette.

They catch me all the time but the planes never bother to land when I pull over

They were real. Plane or chopper would be out there spotting speeders, do the math on line crossing, then call down to a cruiser for the ticket. I think with the slashing of police budgets over the years that was probably high on the chopping block. Seemed wildly expensive just to catch a few speeders.

I can remember seeing those signs, crossing from Baldwin County into Pensacola. I always wondered if it was bullshite.

Soon, when you speed over the speed limit, your car will just print out a speeding ticket from the dashboard.

I love how "public safety" has only become important if it makes a profit.

If the state passed a law stating all traffic fines go to the state general fund you'd see traffic tickets drop off over night.

But are there any cops, at all, between Mobile and Montgomery on 65? I think I've seen one, who blew past me when I was doing 90, in 25 years. Nobody watching that shite.

Not that I mind, of course.
