Milk, eggs that kind of thing. Haven’t opened it. Looked it up and CDC said only four hours. That seems kind of low. Power has been off since 11 last night

Fridge: 2hrs tops

Freezer: 24hrs

That’s assuming you don’t open them until the power come back.

Milk, smell test.

Eggs probably are fine as long as they didn't sweat (build up condensation). Bacteria from outside can move through the shell if they sweat, other than that they should be good. Most people in other countries don't even refrigerate eggs. Just leave them on the counter.

You are way low on both.

It honestly depends on the temperature when the power comes back on. If products are above 40 degrees for 4-5 hours, I’d toss the milk and fresh cut meats, other items like vegetables and processed meats will be fine longer. Guessing this is around 10-12 hours

I’d probably toss all perishables after 24 hours no matter what

Freezer: depends on how packed it is. If it’s full of stuff, I’d go 36 hours if I didn’t open it. I’d also look at the ice and see how melted it is to understand.

It’s fine. We’ve easily gone 8-10 hrs after a hurricane.

Only yard bird eggs. I wouldn't leave any store bought egg out longer than the time it takes to get from store to house.

Eggs, as long as they stay under 70, 1-2 weeks, when I get fresh yard eggs I don't refriegerate them, anything pickled will be fine as well. My Canadian buddy leaves butter out on the counter top covered for a week. Milk I would toss if it gets over 40-45 degrees.

theres a huge difference in other countries. Eggs can be left out on the counter as long as they arent washed. There is a coating called the bloom that essentially protects and seals the egg shell. Once it is washed it MUST be refrigerated. And of course in the US, we chemically wash all the eggs you buy in a store.

Just don’t open it and there are certain things you may not want to keep. Like just go get some fresh lunch meat for example.

Rule of thumb is 8 hours. Take away 10 minutes for every time you open it.

Doesn’t help this time, but this is why I keep battery operated temperature sensors in my fridge and freezer. Even my inexpensive system will track temperature live as well as show high/low temps over a 24 hour period. Takes the guesswork out of it.

Man you can leave milk on the counter for two hours and still be ok.

After 8 in the fridge you need to start thinking about what's next.

Your freezer isn't going to completely thaw out in 24 hours. You have a good two days of solid frozen food/meat. Even if it defrosts it's still be cold enough.

Lol.

Anything perishable in the fridge should last 24 hours.

The stuff in the freezer should be good for 48-72 hours.
