My dear old Dad’s destroyer USS Stembel was part of Desron 48 along side the Kidd early Korean War.
I miss that guy.

The NASA pushboat with the lattice work supporting its wheelhouse was named the “Clermont II”. It was built for pushing Saturn V sections from Michoud to Stennis (formerly the “Mississippi Test Facility”) and then, following testing to assist the sections to get to KSC in Florida for assembly at Cape Canaveral.

It was based at Stennis, ironically crewed by folks whose families got run off their ancestral properties to make way for the construction of the Test Facility.

The boat also transported Liquid Oxygen barges from Air Products’ NOLA East plant to Stennis for engine testing.

Here it is pushing a LOX barge.
