One can claim Hiroshima or Nagasaki as the bloodiest day of ww2 but that does a disservice to peliliu, Guadalcanal, the solomans, Burma, Normandy etc

The only time I’ve ever had the heebie-jeebies at a US Civil War site was at the Bloody Angle.

I’m sure you can do an adequate job of explaining the obvious. An industrial society of roughly 22 million people with a standing army in place was able to successfully wear out an agrarian society of 5.5 million that had to raise, train, cloth and provision an army during wartime.
Better prepared, better armed, better supplied, and it took them 4 long years and disproportionate casualties to prevail. Congratulations.

More Americans died at Antietam than in any battle we have EVER FOUGHT IN.

The reason many southern states seceded was due to the fact the rich land owners there who made up the governing as well as the plantation class were afraid they were going to lose their slaves. The north would not allow secession for any reason, and thus the war was fought. Your average southerner who did the fighting could care less about the human property at the time of rich land owners, but make no mistake that is exactly what caused the war. Well that and the fact the north refused to allow the Union to be split.
