my biggest realization as a male nurse

significant others, especially husbands of female nurses, are completely unaware of just how badass their wives are. That's them, jumping over equipment and doing chest compressions until every muscle feels like it will explode. That's them, trying to wrestle a 6'2 confused patient back into bed so they don't get injured. That's them, completely turning a 600lb patient so they don't get breakdown or pushing them downstairs to get a CT scan along with 12 IV pumps of critical meds. That's them, providing care to save lives and many times to ensure dignity in death. That's them, doing post mortem care and taking their patients to the morgue. Patients that they had cared, advocated and rooted for and lost sleep over. More often then not, at work, when I find myself face down in the metaphorical dirt, the hand that picks me up and dusts me off belongs to one of these women.
