Loyola graduate student carjacked on Magazine Street after fitness class

quote:

Gabby Marino got in her car after working out, looked at her phone, answered a text, and before she knew it, was a victim of a crime.

“Somebody opened my driver side door and told me to get out and leave everything in the car. I was in shock I tried to run to the passenger side to salvage my purse and they drove off with me halfway in the car," Marino said.

Marino was flung into the street and nearly hit by a bus.

As I’ve said before, these New Orleans institutions could stop this. Loyola, Tulane, Oschner, Exxon, etc.

They choose not to.

Everything you lov... this response should be getting old and repetitive, but it is still so applicable.

Sucks that happened, but you need to be paying attention. Getting in your car and just sitting there looking at your phone is asking for trouble.

It’s really one of the most socially unaware statements ever uttered.

This is so common now that before long it won't even be newsworthy.

Is it just me or is this article about a future crime that has yet to be committed?

Does Exxon even have an office of any substance here anymore?

That fact that some people are coming around to this mindset is fricking scary.

We're getting to the point where simply sitting in your car should lead to expectations of getting violently carjacked. That's insane.

This would be a response expected from New Orleans mayor's office.

Always. Lock. Your. Doors. Always.

Those of you with teens who are driving, beat this into their heads. Even if you put it in park and it opens the lock, re-lock it. Always.
