“A traveler nearing a great city asked an old man seated by the road, “What are the people like in this city?” “What were they like where you came from?” the man asked. “Horrible,” the traveler reported. “Mean, untrustworthy, detestable in all respects.” “Ah,” said the old man, “you will find them the same in the city ahead.” Scarcely had the first traveler gone on his way when another stopped to inquire about the people in the city before him. Again the old man asked about the people in the place the traveler has just left. “They were fine people: honest, industrious, and generous to a fault,” declared the second traveler. “I was sorry to leave.” The old man responded, “That’s exactly how you’ll find the people here.”

How do you even get started to accomplish this?

To us, Louisiana is starting to resemble a restaurant that is going downhill fast. Customers won't complain to the owner, they just stop going back...
A friend from out west visited Louisiana for a couple weeks last spring. His comment was that it reminded him of a "dirty gas station bathroom".
I've never heard it described like that, but I can't disagree.

I know I’m in the minority… but I actually like living in Louisiana… I’ve spent significant time in Texas, Georgia, California, Missouri and New York (not the city but Ft. Drum)…Louisiana better to me at least
I would never leave Louisiana for somewhere like Houston, but I'd definitely leave for somewhere with 4 seasons, and an interesting topography.
ETA: I don't understand the people who move to Texas suburbs (hell or suburbs in most areas) and spout off about their increased quality of life, where were you living in Louisiana before that sucked so bad?

I moved my family out of Shreveport to South Lake Charles. We love it down here so far.

Not sure runnin reb is upgrading if that’s the case.

I tend to agree. I guess I get it if they were living in Shreveport or Alexandria or something.

We are moving East of here. Staying in the Southeast and will be within a 1/2 hour of Atlantic Ocean.
Renting a house for a year in our new place, will put current home on the market soon.
Schools are sorted out already as well.
Felt like it was just time, although had been considering it for a few years. I think honestly the final straw for my wife was the Allison Rice situation (which sadly could happen in other places) but she doesn't want our kids driving around this war zone at night.

I love the OTers who act like moving from LA to a giant suburb in TX is an act of bravery on the level of storming Omaha beach

Just people airing their frustration with the state. It's not slight to people who stay, I think for some people it truly is hard to move away.

Some of them act like it almost exotic or something and a completely different way of life

Grass isn’t always greener.
I moved away thinking I didn’t want to live in south LA anymore. Quickly realized how great it actually is there, miss it every day and can’t wait to be back permanently.

So you’d rather hit up estate sales with the wife and don’t like to hunt and/or fish… it’s okay
Enjoy
