Levi Cowan released his video on the upcoming hurricane season...

If tweet fails to load, click here. Levi seems to be one of the better weather guessers. He lays out his thoughts on the upcoming season with facts and logic. He isnt one of those people who says "we are all going to die", he isnt after clicks.
Video is about 15 minutes but a good listen. What I took away from it was he (as well as most other meteorologists) think this will be an active season but nobody can guess how many storms will make landfall.
Im hoping for a lot of fish storms and no landfalls but we all need to be prepared for the worst.

My neighbor used to be a meteorologists for one of the big stations down in NOLA and although he's got another career now, he still does it for a hobby and told me the same thing.
His fear is that the return of what should be another brutally hot summer combined with the presence of the storm could generate a monster.

If it's brutally hot that means high pressure and sinking air generally. Not good conditions to create hurricanes, a monster one, or have one hit the area. See last summer.

He wasn't insinuating that he was expecting "last summer" highs, only that our summers can be incredibly warm and a an incredibly warm gulf paired with an active storm season is = no good.

well yeah they say it every year - if you aren't preparing for potentially the worst, you are doing it wrong. all it takes is to not take it seriously, and the universe will go in dry.
my wife asked why I was always severe weather focused here in Birmingham, especially about tornadoes - she said we haven't seen one close in forever - then we had one 3/4 of a mile from our apartment when the one went through the south area of 280 in Brook Highland/Eagle Point.

After the brutal hurricane season of 2005 we went til 2017 until the tropics ramped back up, and since then it’s been pretty active. I hope we get into a drought for the next decade but this season looks like it wants to continue the active pattern b

I think we will have a cooler summer than last year and a lot more rain. Probably too much.
Predicting landfalls is literally guesswork but in post el Nino years we have had plenty of storms.

Here is the list of storms that hit SELA in that time period.
2008 we had Gustav and Ike
2011 we had Tropical Storm Lee
2012 we had Hurricane Isaac that stayed over SELA for a week
2013 through 2016 were pretty quiet
2017 it cranked back up with Harvey and others
2019 Barry
2020 was crazy Laura, Delta, Zeta
2021 Ida
2022-2023 quiet
So here is to a 3rd year of hoping that all storms stay out to sea and away from SELA.
But as with all statistics, the cards eventually will not fall our way. So if we do have to deal with one, hopefully the impacts are weak and we are just making fun of our weather soothsayers.
