There's one almost universal truth I have found with all runners. Whether it's for competition, physical or mental health what gets most people running and keeps them running is the person they're running from; their old self.

For some its running from addiction; food, drugs, sex, whatever.
For others it's running from anxiety, depression or behavioral disorders.
For all, the greatest joys in running aren't found in just what you're running to and it doesn't end when you finish because you never finish.

Great promo by Brooks here IMO.

Brooks shows why it’s dusting Nike in this powerful new ad starring Jeremy Renner

"I run 12 miles per day"
But why? You are fit already and not training for war. Why do you want to destroy your knees?

Same goes for the crossfit crowd. Bro you work an office job and have 3 kids. Why you out here flipping tractor tires?

I'm a Saucony guy, but great promo by Brooks. I'm not particularly fond of running, but I do it to stay healthy.

Also, those shoes look great.

This is the biggest lie and myth perpetuated by some unknown entity. Ask sports doctors about this, it's categorically false and a legit sports doctor that's up to date with current information will refute this nonsense.

He's running 12 miles a day a year after that accident in December? He broke something like 14 bones including his ankle and femur and half his ribs. I have my doubts.

There’s a .00000000001% chance that he’s ever actually met anyone who runs 12 miles a day but people have these false narratives in their brains and then they use it as crutches for their own shortcomings.

I had two different chiropractors tell me the CrossFit craze is the best thing that ever happened to their business.

I've tried both and Saucony is far superior IMO for running

I work in an office and have 3 kids. I run. And I cross train. I'm at the gym, on the pavement, or in the pool 4-6 days a week.

I do it to live a longer, better, healthier life for my family. And if I should ever need to protect my family, or handle a stressful situation involving them, I am in a much better position to do so. I also believe that it makes me more productive at work.

The question should be for those that don't: why don't you?

They have overtaken Brooks. My old Brooks can't hold a candle to the newer Saucony's.

As a functional person, I mostly agree with your take but sometimes you need to exercise regularly to make sure you don't injure yourself doing functional things. Something as simple as picking up lumber can jack your back up.

To be in really good shape? To live an active/healthy lifestyle? To push yourself to get better? To have more energy which helps with being productive in other areas of life? And it takes away the the boredom of a normal gym workout (if you struggle with that). CrossFit gets a lot of hate and if you're at a "box" where they don't harp on fundamentals and form, the injury risk is there, but it's a great workout and will get you in incredible shape/endurance if you stick with it.

It's whatever fits you best. I've tried Nike, Saucony and Asics and always come back to my Brooks.

Same goes for any adult sports leagues or pick up games. you aren't training for the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB....why have any fun and stay in shape right?

Just compete for da beetus, and an early death. Much Cooler!

Saucony is no better than Brooks and vice versa. They both offer quite a few models to appeal to just about all runners bit the model of the shoe is much more important than the brand

Running is something I've never been "able" to do (of course I have, I just never pursued it with any diligence) - so I'm tackling it because I want my boys to see their dad doing it, TBH.

It's boring and incremental and it's weird pursuing something later in life where you know you'll never achieve anything of note relative to other people. I mean, I'm training to accomplish things my kids can probably do with minimal effort in a a few years. But all that aside, I've found it pretty fulfilling to see progress, unremarkable as it is.

i've always alternated between Brooks, NB, Asics, and Saucony. My last two Brooks really really sucked and i've moved on to exclusively new balance. they make a lot of academy cheap crap, but their exclusives have just worked the best.

the ghost line was freaking killer but then they started making them look cool for moms instead of like real running shoes.

this remains the greatest running shoe i've ever worn and got 700 miles off of them.
