That would involve a lot of people keeping their mouths shut for all these years. Impossible.
And what would be a good reason to go thru all that to "fake us out".

India launched a moon orbiter that took a photo of the Apollo 11 site in 2021.
Plenty of third party observers tracked the Apollo missions as they were happening, including the Soviet Union.
Also, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has been orbiting the moon for years now and has photographed all the landing sites.
You can also reflect a laser back from multiple reflectors placed on the surface during the Apollo missions.

The podcast talks about that. With the lack of social media in the time and the fact that someone was killed for wanting to speak about the hoax, it is very plausible that only a handful of people knew about it and the fear of speaking out was discouraged due to the repercussions. It was also about creating national pride during a time of competitive national pride with the soviets.

Keep in mind it would have been a relatively simpler task to simply launch a rocket into orbit, wait a few days, then have two dozen people in a studio in New Mexico shoot the footage. Don't need hundreds of people to lie for that.
