I saw some gameplay of MW3 the other day and why do we need so many soldiers? Wars are fought with missiles nukes etc. who cares about Timmy with a gun? We should cut down infantry spend and focus more on technology like small drone warfare.

Yes, the US Government is the most bloated employer in history.

---no, the IRS is

Do we really care that much about infantry? I feel like we’re one of the few countries in the world where you’re not required to serve in the military.

The US government overall is the most over employed entity in the world. And the idiots currently in charge want to make it bigger. Starting with the IRS.

I think the war in Ukraine has shown that you have to have lots of bodies on the battlefield. Technology only gets you so far, you have to put boots on the ground to take and hold land.

Their* technology only goes so far. You think we send them the best and latest?

I wouldn't call the IRS bloated as much as unnecessary. They are properly sized for the way the system is set up right now...but we should have a consumption based Fair Tax, and all but eliminate the need for >95% of the IRS.

You'll always need boots on the ground.
As far as government spending is concerned, the US military is always the last expenditure I complain about. The government is constitutionally obligated to provide for the defense of this country.
I'd rather they clean up pork spending, money to Ukraine, etc... before they start cutting defense spending.

US FedGov is the answer, but, as others have said, not really the military.
Nukes and missiles are great if you want to wipe out a city or are fighting on an open battlefield, but if you want to take and hold ground, especially in urban areas, you have to have the manpower to do it on foot. As much of a boondoggle as the Iraq war was, there is no way the US could have cleared those cities of ISIS/Al-Queada forces without boots on the ground and house to house searches.
HHS has close to 80,000 employees and a budget of over $1.5 trillion a year. Just the CDC has nearly 11,000 FTE employees and another 5,000 contractors, and has a budget of over $11 billion.

Well your army of tech nerds will be fine until the first EMP is released.
Good luck begging Timmy to protect you after that.

U.S. Universities should be in the running for that honor.
