The only thing I can of is they were targeting eco-centric idiots who would use it when they fly into a major city and only use it for a few miles each day and didn’t want to deal with filling up a gas vehicle, but honestly those folks would probably just use Uber/Lyft anyways or public transportation.

Out of curiosity do they expect you to have the car at a full charge when returning it?

I don't travel much anymore but there were a number of times I had a rental that I put less than 100 miles on. An EV would be fine for that as long as they don't expect me to have it fully charged upon return. Or charge an insane fee for charging the car like they do if you bring it back low on gas.
