I really want a GMT which is about ~$9,500 retail, but you pretty much can't get any sport models in stainless steel from an AD unless you are a long-time customer. GMT's are going for 2x retail on grey market and regardless, i'd only want to buy from an AD.

I bought the Omega Diver 300 a few months ago as my first higher-end watch and love it.

Depending on what you are looking for, i'd look at Omega, Jaeger Lecoultre, and IWC.

Lol, I always hated that watch. It’ll probably skyrocket in $ when it’s discontinued.

I have never been a fan of the current black Milgauss but love my Z-Blue that I bought after my wife "stole" my white one.

That said if someone doesn't need the anti-magnetic properties (if you do Omega is better anyway) and aren't hooked on the orange thunderbolt second hand then the Oyster Perpetual is a great and cheaper option. It comes in multiple colors and is easy to find at retail which is under $5k. A Milgauss with a green crystal will run you about $9k and a clear crystal version around $8k.

The 10K is a downpayment unless he gets a pretty old one.

Yeah. No doubt if money was no issue, I'd buy a Patek with its complicated/grand complicated mechanism because I'm truly fascinated at the engineering in that watch. But $10K ain't getting you one.

I enjoy the Ballon Bleu Cartier watch. It's distinct, and I could easily see it being a turnoff. No date on the face. I'm nowhere near to the point in my life of owning a that-level fancy watch. But for something that you don't see all over the place, give it a look.

2 tone, blue and gold. i used to love the submariner until I worked on a trade floor and realized that every single trader had the same black on black submariner and I became disinterested, now I have a Coke bezel GMT Master II

I have a 5711, 5167, 5980 and 5070 but they all were bought when you could get them at retail with a small amount of persistence. Today with SS 3 hand versions running 2x retail I would recommend someone shopping the high end to consider a Vacheron Constantin or Lange instead. The quality is essentially the same (some would argue Lange is higher) and while still ridiculously inflated they don't command the OOT market premiums like many Pateks.

I bought a Rolex Oyster Datejust, through my brother-in-law, when he was stationed in Germany. It was a couple hundred dollars at that time. That was in the early 70s. Some kids broke into our house and stole it when I was living in north Mississippi.

VC and Lange have quite the "off the lot" slide like most watches. AP holds value better than both across their catalogs.

What’s the deal with Ap sports models? Are they hard to get too?

I have a Rolex I’ll sell you for way less than 10k. Inherited it and have no use for it. Never wore it once and don’t see what’s so special about it. It’s just a watch.

Jewelery is a huge waste of money imo. I’ll invest whatever I get for it in some etfs.

My dream watch is either the Pepsi or Batman -- hoping the SS supply issue eventually lessons. I do wish they still made them on the oyster band vs jubilee.
