I've always liked Bulova watches. They aren't insanely expensive but they still look pretty nice. Baume and Mercer makes a good watch that isn't absurdly expensive as well.

Rolexes are for poors. Patek Philippe is where it's at.

but I would only get one with a sapphire crystal.

The sapphire sandwich has the advantage of scratch resistance (and a display back) but costs an extra grand, and is quite a bit thicker which some people dislike and many just like the look of a Hesalite (plexi) crystal. There is also the issue of some people aren't interested in a manual wind watch.

I've got some expensive watches and you know what I do with them? I look at them in a nice glass case on my bathroom counter 345 days of the year.

I don’t understand the point of that, but different strokes.

I wear my watch doing pretty much anything, lawn work, swimming, working out, etc...

I wear watches daily and for the same tasks as you. I just dont wear the more expensive ones but for events and such. I like to collect them, I guess, but dont consider them an investment.

For what it's worth, I find myself wearing a $150 Timex more than any others.....

You’re definitely not alone, a ton of people do that. Maybe I’m the weird one. I have a moderately priced watch that I wear for everything from yard work to wearing a suit for a wedding.

I’ve tried the multiple watch thing but I just end up wearing my favorite at all times.

ETA: at times I’ve considered buying a dress watch, but I just feel like I’d do like you and just have it in a box for most of the year. And to me, I would feel like it’s a waste.

I’ve never lost money on a Rolex sports model, Owned about 15 in the last 30 years. I have lost money buying omega and JLC new, if you want one of these buy on the secondary market. If I was going to buy one to keep in the family for a while it would be a Rolex Daytona white face. The Daytona is about 12250 msrp if you can find one, I’ve seen one sell at Auction for 30K most around the 27K range. If you have some pull with an AD get on the list and wait, hopefully you’ll get the call one day. Imo the 40mm seadweller 8K range that was discontinued is a great investment. No matter which one you decide on, make sure it comes with the box and all paperwork. Good luck.

I wouldn't call it a waste. Every man should have a nice watch collection, IMO. If for no other reason than to pass them along to your sons. My three year old already has a favorite.

I will say this they will mean a LOT more to them if they see you wearing them a lot.

I'll give you a blow job for $10,000 cash. It's not gay; it's business.

Probably so. They're young, so I've got time yet.

I just left about a ten year phase where I was into mechanical self winding watches. They lose time all the farking time and after a while the deficiencies in time keeping overcame the coolness of the watches. Spent a lot on watches and have a collection but they don’t do anything anymore.

Not really having any preference in battery powered watches I picked up a Timex while getting something in WalMart. I like it.

Keep in mind that high end watches require maintenance by qualified people. Only one guy I’d trust with any of mine. Royal pain in the arse to keep up with. I’d not spend over a grand.
