A Rolex will probably hold it's value the best in that price range.

Started to like Hublot recently.

But, the more conservative side of me sticks with the tried and true...Explorer II.

Timex Indiglo and phone have served me well for 35 years.

I look at guys with expensive watches as pretentious motherfrickers.

$10,000 to spend on a watch, which one and why? Thinking about a new watch and need some suggestions on ones that are nice and will retain their value.

Need to know a bit more about the type of watch you're looking for in order to give a valid response. Do you want a "dress watch", or a "sport watch"? What's important to you? Horological history? Just keeping value? Do you dress more conservatively, or are you looking to stand out? Why no Rolex?

It's impossible to give a good response with the little information you have given. It's like someone asking for a good restaurant to eat at tonight in New Orleans. I can give a ton of recommendations, but that doesn't mean it's going to be anything that you'd like.

It’s more about being able to pass something down that the kids will hold onto. My wife has her engagement ring to pass down and I figured a nice watch could be something similar from me.

Rolex! I love mine. I wear that and my dad’s old fossil watch. It’s nothing special but it’s a nice memory.

No one really wears a watch anymore. Get something else.

The better question is what's now the best wearable status symbol? I guess it's probably still a watch but no one really cares about them anymore.

Just buy a nice looking versatile watch for <$500.
No one notices or cares about the brand of your watch.

I’m not a flashy person and it would be more for dress and not sport. I prefer something low key and simple. I’m fine with a Rolex and have been thinking about a Milgauss. But, I know little about watches and was wondering if there were other brands I should be checking out.

Cell phone

Here's the irony - since the cell phone is pulling time off the tower, probably a network time that updates via the internet to the "official" time (or Atomic time), most cats with watches will be checking their phone to make sure their watch has the correct time.

Wrap your mind around that.
