How does this not make sense to you? If you have to lock your doors to keep thiefs and robbers out, it indicates we don't have enough focus on law and order.

What about just locking your doors to keep people who don't live there out... regardless if their thieving or robbing...

This read like you were building up to the punch line of a joke. Weirdest topic I've ever read.

It's pretty rare to have someone just come in that isn't doing anything crazy. Obviously as this thread indicates, it does happen.

But our culture in the USA holds unlocked doors to be an indicator of safety and security. If you live in a town where the doors are unlocked most nights, you're probably safe.

This morning, I heard a strange noise. I walked to my living room and there was a woman in a night gown asleep on my floor.

You think the wife's gonna buy this excuse?

Crazy arse morning to say the least. Door locked from now on.

What? This is America...I can't believe people are still leaving doors unlocked in 2024. Idgaf if you live in a town with 18 people.

I've heard that Ambien can do this to people. Or even just straight up sleepwalking. They look awake and can talk, but are sound asleep and have no memory the next day.

My husband was at a conference years ago and had a man that stumbled through the a joining hotel door (to which the lock was broken) in his underwear. Woke up husband from a sound sleep. Hubs instinct was to start beating him up, but said he seemed confused too.

Hotel moved husband and comped us a free week at any location of our choosing (for the broken door lock)

Crazy. I lock my doors, but I've had drunk idiots pound on them before thinking it's their apartment, loudly complaining the lock doesn't work. A nice, loud racking of a 9mm generally fixes the situation real quick. Pro tip, stand near the door but not in front of it in-case they are actually trying to rob you, so if they shoot the door, you're fine.

That's what would make most people want to say "nevermind robocop i have no clue what you are talking about I'm going back in my house, so you go get another decent cop and get him to come back and not act like a jerk I'll talk to him".

I'm 75 and live alone. Last NFL season I was eating sunflower seeds and watching the Chiefs lose to the Colts on a Sunday night. Twice it sounded like someone was knocking on my back door. I ignored the sound. Maybe it was dropping pine cones. After a couple of minutes a voice said why didn't you come to the door. I looked up and saw a shirtless black man inside my house. He looked to be around 30 years old. I said you're not supposed to be here. He said I just need a place to rest. I repeated what I said. He repeated what he said. The man seemed confused and scared. I decided to treat him like a guest. I sat him down and brought him a glass of water. I noticed that he was wearing shorts and socks without shoes. I went back to eating sunflower seeds and watching the game. The man asked to use my shower. I told him that I didn't want him to use my shower. After a while he asked if he could have some sunflower seeds. I gave him some. After about thirty minutes I told the man that I wasn't comfortable with him being here. He said nothing for a couple of minute and then said that he was leaving and that I should lock my back door. He got up. I heard my back door open and close. I continued to watch the game. After a while I got up and locked the door. I still forget to lock doors sometimes but I try not to.

Had some friends that lived in an apartment in Auburn. There was this creep that lived a floor above them. When they would have a party, he'd wait until everyone was passed out, then sneak in and, I am not making this up, he'd try to screw their feet. Dude was caught twice trying to do this. Thankfully, I never went to stay with them.

We were partying at a friends camp on the Tickfaw river and my friend got totally hammered. She went in the wrong camp and got in bed while people were hanging out in the living room. Realized she was in the wrong camp, got up and left. To this day...I would love to have seen those people's reactions.
