Hello

I live in Houma and had a lot of damage from Hurricane Ida. Southern Fidelity made first payment 31 days after field adjuster came out. I did see some posts mentioning 30 day mark required for payment but I thought the insurance commissioner extended it to 60. Any insight?

I was having extreme difficulty with my desk adjuster. Would not call me back or email me back. No correspondence whatsoever following initial payment. I must say I received more than enough to start interior - $50,000 but my mortgage company is holding it. I was trying to get mold mitigation estimate approved with no luck. Just last week I paid out of pocket $5000 and praying I get reimbursed. Roof is done. Home completely gutted. Can I start the Sheetrock with exterior siding and vapor barrier missing?

Issue… on October 29, I signed a contract with a public adjuster. They have not completed their estimate. And now they will not reply to email request for an update. I was told on November 30, completing repairs without insurance approval could result in them not reimbursing. Example… 10 window replacement = $5300. Insurance only gave me $1000. Vinyl siding estimates running anywhere between $15000 - $21000. Insurance sent about $5000. I feel like I can’t start sheetrock until siding is done but at this point, we might have to.

Any advice? Kind of nervous to complain to insurance commissioner about PA - if it’s even an option. If they cancel the contract and they can for any reason… I will owe them for any work they’ve done even if it doesn’t consist of increase to my claim amount. November 30, PA said estimate should be done in two to three days. Last Thursday, they said estimate should be complete by Friday. Tuesday I asked for update and asked if mold mitigation invoice was sent to insurance company. No response. Today sent email saying I know how busy they are but to not receive any response is disheartening. No response. Do I need to ease up and trust this process?

You better grow some nuts are they will take you to the wood shed. Don’t call everyday ,call twice a day . If no reply , email same day so you have records when you go to insurance commissioner. Good luck my friend,

Keep bugging the shite out out them and keep going up the chain to supervisors. If you don’t hear something soon, hire a lawyer.

Thank you! Loading hypothetical nuts. Lol!!!

I’ve been trying to be understanding with the amount of damage we’ve had down here. I will let them enjoy their Christmas… and then start my squeaky wheel.

The only thing you can trust your insurance company to do is for them to try and pay you as little as possible.

Assume the worst with them.

They are your enemy.

Good luck.

Issue with the PA is they are the owners. No supervisors. A lawyer is definitely on the table.

I appreciate your reply.

That is why I hired the public adjuster and it feels like they are the same as insurance company. Almost two months have passed and no estimate completed by my public adjuster.

Thank you!

Insurance will pay as little as possible and the mortgage company will make your life a living hell by holding the money and allocating it as they see fit. Add in how difficult it is to get a contractor to actually do work and you have a situation where if you aren’t raising ten shades of hell you will never be made whole unless you come out of pocket (which you are already having to do). I feel for you my man. It sucks

This is another thing the OT is good at, dealing with shitass insurance companies after a storm.

There's probably nothing this lot here hasn't seen or experienced in that regard.

Good luck.

Here's some sage advice...don't build in a place that gets fricked up, and then be suprised when you have to pay for it.

Rocket science, I know.

Mortgage company was a hurdle I wasn’t expecting. The person that is managing my funds is in Chicago so it’s not like I can go pick up a check.

If I get a contractor to come out… I can’t get a quote. At this point… I’m YouTubing “vinyl siding installation”

Yes it does suck!!

Thank you!

I reported Southern Fidelity back in October. Just received their report Tuesday.

After the new year… if the public adjuster hasn’t completed their estimate, I will see if I can file a complaint against them.

Thank you!

Keep escalating to supervisors and threaten to file a complaint with the Louisiana Dept. of Insurance. Never accept no for an answer and read your policy extremely closely and challenge them on every point.

Search for attorneys in your area specializing in recovery. Keep all paperwork, document all contacts.

E.g. Below was a firm that came up using search. I have no association with them.
There are others.

I wish you luck in getting assistance. I echo what LegendInMyMind said, you can get good advice here. Just ignore the occasional *hole.

PS welcome to the OT
