Except that "before" voting Democrat didn't mean voting for full-fledged socialism. JFK wouldn't win the Dem nomination today. There is no comparison.

Show your work please. Not anecdotal stories about you, but show the math where you claim things are not harder and more expensive now.

The data is what it is. It’s harder now. Your dollar and income are weaker than ever compared to your home and other goods

Then move to a smaller town, or even a little outside of town, where real estate prices are more affordable.
That's great until it's time to sell it and you can't.

Yep. It's why I ask those folks to show their work. Anecdotal doesn't prove a thing, show me the numbers. They can't.

It’s just another step in the globalist plan of you’ll own nothing and like it. I’m afraid for that generation in that their entire upbringing has been in service of that plan. Relying more and more on government, the decline in purchasing power of the US Dollar, the consumer debt rate tripling, to name a few things which are quickly spiraling out of control. It won’t be long before the governments swoop in with a plan to “save” people from the debt monster. They’ve already started with student loans. Credit cards are next. The dollar will be worth nothing and the only one who can save us is the entity that prints the money.

Would have been a more effective comparison if you mentioned George W Bush. Trump's mistake was he should have insisted CARES funding be tied to states removing all restrictions. Good luck finding a Democrat who opposed that spending.
Nixon won California, twice. Reagan won California, twice. Heck even Bush Sr won California. Anyone claiming voting hasn't dramatically changed isn't paying attention.

Its amazing how you can’t grasp this simple concept 50 years ago Americans could live just about anywhere and with a solid job could build wealth with real estate Now you have to move to the middle of nowhere or fallen broken towns to do so. You don’t see that as a problem?

No offense but nobody gives a shite what you did. We are talking about society as a whole. And the truth is it’s harder now. No need to be insecure about that
I try to help you with advice based on having to get started in a shitty economy with no one to help. Instead of listening you get defensive and attack me. Well frick you. Go figure it out for yourself. Or do what you’re doing now and just feel sorry for yourself.

It's not harder now. I'm doing just fine. Many of my peers are struggling. Those are the same peers who rejected the idea of working hard and pursuing a marketable career field.

Young people have to lead the charge of electing the right politicians. That's the answer to all woes.

Dude I don’t need help. And this is t about me, and it isn’t about you either
Individual stories don’t matter. It’s the whole that is being discussed. It’s worse and harder now
Does that mean individuals didn’t have it hard years ago? No. Does that mean indoviduals can’t be successful now? No
It just means shite is worse now and harder for youth.

quote:correct young folks don’t want a starter home. I just looked up the home I bought for 58k in 1996, it looks to have sold recently for 90k. 3 bed 1 bath shady lot w two car carport. Neighborhood seems to look similar to when I was there. I bet you can’t get a new couple to even look at it
the wants on basic things like a house are much different today than for our grandparents. They lived in 3 br 1 bath box’s that were a lot smaller than the average home today. Features like paneled walls, 8 ft ceilings, low roof pitch, and small lots were very common. The features in most apartments today were not in the nicest of neighborhoods in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

I think the disconnect is that the advice isn't objectively bad advice, it just doesn't work in this climate. A 3/2 1400 sq ft house in my area (not new construction) is between 230k-250k. If you put 3.5% down on 250k, your mortgage payment would be about $1900 a month. If you follow the benchmark of no more than 28% of your monthly income to home costs, that means you'd need to take home about 7k a month. 7k take home a month is somewhere between 110k-120k in salary a year.
In Louisiana, only about 23% of households make over 100k a year, meaning 77% of the state cannot afford to purchase a pretty basic, cookie cutter, starter home.
Let's say you backed down your price range to 200k. That still means housing would cost you about $1600 a month and you'd need to take home 90k a year to afford that.
Keep in mind, all the while insurance is up, food is up, clothing is up, etc. These are the numbers. People can be upset at them but they are what they are.
I don't understand why older folks are so hell bent on hammering young people when the truth is we, old and young, are all getting fricked by the government and their fiscally irresponsible policies.

Yep. The point isn't that they didn't bust their arse either. The point is they busted their arse and it paid off and they got ahead but busting your arse now won't get you ahead as it once did. It's not a character shot at them, but they take it that way.
