Because there's a chance of a natural disaster. It's a pretty reasonable request

You realize when you rented the place that there was a cancellation policy right OP?

Some rain isn’t going to get you a refund lol.

As a former online retailer, I can say from experience that chargebacks used to be automatic.

Chargeback fraud caused the banks to reel it in a bit.

If your claim is valid, you’ll probably win.

In 2014, you could pretty much get your money back from any expense, even for products you didn’t return. People and companies took advantage of this, so they reeled it in a bit, but the customer still usually wins the dispute if there is any legitimacy to the claim.

IMO, you’re 90% or so likely to win if you file a chargeback.

Yes but you’ll probably get your refund anyway

This is covered by travel insurance if you are inside the policy dates.

So every lodging in Mississippi and Louisiana should close this weekend? Or just the ones with butthurt customers?

you already did it wrong, you are now screwed

if you made the charge then changing your mind, for any reason, isnt grounds to void the transaction.

in cases like this its best to just straight up report the card was stolen and dispute ever making the charge and not even try to talk to anyone about it and open up that can of worms that is rigged to screw you over at every turn.

now that you talked to Airbnb customer service they have your conversation on record and recorded to prevent you from disputing the charge now. so the only chance you had to get out of it is already gone.

have you tried asking if they can just reschedule you for next weekend? they are often willing to do stuff like that so they dont have to refund you anything

Well there was a chance of natural disaster when the agreement was negotiated and signed as well and the renter apparently did not feel the need to address it or negotiate an outcome at the time. So I don't see how this should change the agreement after the fact. Both sides had equal knowledge (or the opportunity to obtain it) of the chance of bad weather when the agreement was negotiated and entered into, so the agreement should control. Pretty simple and fair.

Lol travel insurance is a fricking crock. I bought it once and had to cancel and they told me to suck a dick. Waste of money.

A tropical storm is not a natural disaster. It's not even an extraordinary event. They're quite common and rarely cause significant damage.

And if the current forecast models hold true, the worst of it won't really impact the GS area. They'll have some rain, wind, and rough surf, and that's about it.

Your advice is to commit fraud? Excellent advice

Wrong. It's both. Anytime you use a CC for a purchase you have the option to process a chargeback.

I get that it is both, but to call this a simple CC dispute is idiotic. My point was not to be a dick to the guy, but to point out that this isn't a matter of some crackhead charging on your CC and disputing it. Airbnb, and the host all have policies so if one of those three policies have their asses covered then our poster will have a hard time disputing.

I never believed you to be a smart man, but advising CC fraud as a solution is just beyond dumb.

Plus here is one angle I see here that warrants mentioning:

If AirBnB policy in place at purchase explicitly states how this situation is handled and you attempt to use a credit card chargeback to sidestep it in the event they decide not to make an exception for you, be aware they are likely to permanently blacklist that card number for future usage if the issuer rules against them.

The easy way to avoid this is to book vacations on a premium travel rewards cc that has travel insurance as a card perk.

Which is the first document Airbnb will send over to Bank of America.

Yeah the forecast is for rain and 20 mph wind in gulf shores. No reason for a refund

Amex and Citi have had my back 100% over the years. Chase could help you out here, more likely if you are a faithful tenured card member.

Also, host is a mega douche.
