Anybody ever hire a live-in dogsitter? We are taking a week long trip and the usual family/neighbors are not able to hang on to our larger dogs.

First, have you ever used Rover? Find it useful?

Second, what do you pay someone per day to stay with your dog?

This is an odd question because that live-in sitter is not forgoing their day job, they're just sleeping in a bed across town and feeding/walking the dogs.

Frankly when I was younger I did this for free occasionally when friends went out of town, but I have the feeling "how about $zero" will not be received well.

I'm not too worried about the house, we have a small rental down the street that we're going to use, so not too concerned about access to private stuff or theft.

My ex live-in pet sitter cost me half my stuff and she kept the house.

The local adoption shelters usually have folks that do this and at least can be tied back to a place of business.

To estimate a rate, look up what it would cost to kennel them and then realize your asking for a better service.

You did it for free for a friend and wonder if a stranger would do the same for you?

They aren’t in their own house and have added responsibilities.

We have a gal that's in her late 20s and dog sitting is her full time job. She also does a lot with rescues and rehoming dogs. She charges $40 a day. I don't mind paying that because we would never board our dog and she doesn't have to leave for work. I do have a friend that is working part-time for "Rover" and I am amazed how many people use it.

We use a dog sitter when we go out of town. She comes twice a day. Morning to feed and let dogs outside and returns at night to feed and put them in their kennels. $30 per day. Takes her 15 minutes each visit.

$30-$60 per day depending on city and if it’s holiday season

Rover takes a cut and prices for everything have gotten crazy, better off with a friend or booking some directly and not through the app

We have used Rover in a pinch in the past and it was fine, just find someone that has reviews and photos. I always dropped off at their house, though I don’t want a rando in my house

For the same cost you can hire someone to just stop by twice a day for walk and feedings and not stay

I'm probably just being extra stupid today but I don't understand. Are they livign in your home for a week while you're gone, or are they staying in a bed across town and doing their regular job and only coming by to feed adn walk?

No

We board ours at a local place. In the past we’d take our animals with us and crate them in a hotel.

We’ve done it for friends where we’d go out a few times a day and they’d pay us.

So if you’re just down the street, why aren’t you going to let your animals out? Maybe I’m confused about this part.

Our friends daughter who is in college does this for us when we go out of town. She goes to school during the day and will stay at our house the rest of the time watching our dogs. She charges $25 a night and we also usually bring her back a souvenir. This is in south Louisiana.
