What is the OT opinion and experience on these?

How accurate are they?

The reason I ask, I'm setting up betting odds among the family for the various breeds that may come back.

I’ve generally tested negative.

Dog DNA Tests

Just throw some money out of your window while driving down the highway. You'll get the same amount of worth out of it.

What if your dog tests negative for DNA?

If you spend money on this, your dog will be relieved to find out that he's actually not related to you.

We have rescue dogs and are doing this out of curiosity. Have no idea how long it will take to get the results back but we plan to get the test sent off this week.

I’ve done twice. Results come back relatively quick. Three weeks maybe. Results were online.
Pretty cool, gives their breed, health history and family tree. It updates periodically to give you any new health or family information. Both dogs were adopted as puppies and I was curious.

I paid for a 100% chocolate lab, best dog ever. 16 years later I find out she’s 75% lab and 25% German Shepard

Underrated breed of dog and not all that common in the US.

Unless you want to find out your dog is a serial killer I would avoid it.

Our dog looked like some kind of Doberman mix, only slightly smaller. I was worried the results would show something crazy like a Pit Bull / Dachshund mix.

Instead, it was mostly Black Lab and German Shepherd with a couple of terriers mixed in. Plus, about 10% Pit Bull. Unfortunately, it’s very common for rescues and mixes to have some Pit blood.

Embark is considered the more reliable option for breed test. Just know they can only identify breeds in the last few generations...that's how all these merle Frenchies and poodles etc test purebred despite it being clear that someone lied somewhere along the way.

This is what we used for our rescue mutt. Fairly quick results. Very detailed.
