I hate to jinx it, but I’ve noticed that wasps are seemingly gone as of late. I usually encounter several of the aggressive bastards during my weekly round of yard work, but I honestly can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen one.

Dirt daubers cannot daub without mud.

Most Northern Europeans prefer colder climates.

We battled them last month but haven’t seen a ton this summer. Mud daubers are OOC, though.

Unlikely. I must’ve killed 10 of them in my backyard in the last 2 weeks.

My husband was bitten on his hand last night by two and although he felt the stings, they didn't have enough venom to bother him more that slight swelling handled by baking soda and water.
Most times, his reactions are worse.

sort of, they need water to create the paste they use to build the nests.

In this kind of heat, everything seems to be less active.

I was home in the middle of the day when it was ~102. I had to go outside and was struck by the silence. The only sounds I heard were the neighbor's AC and the very occasional vehicle in the distance.

No dogs barking.
No lawn work going on.
No kids playing.
No birds chirping.
No squirrels, no insects, no nothing.

It felt a bit like I was in an opening landscape scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

They need water. They are going to find it or die. They are most likely relocated for now to where they can find water.

Well they must all be at my house. My shed is full, they are all over just sitting in the grass for some reason and most afternoons they are all over my pool.

We haven't had as many, but they are building nests on our front and back patio in the shade.

I can tell when one is around if my kids are in the pool. My daughter screams to high hell because they land on the water to drink. Been traumatized ever since she was 3-4 and one came out of the little bongo under the playhouse and stung her on the hand.

Also saw one crabbing last Saturday do the same thing.

There’s def some correlation there I think. They’ve been less active for sure. I think the same might be for love bugs.

I can’t think of one reason why God created wasp, roaches or spiders

They can all die in fires

Farmers almanac says paint over hang ceilings sky blue

Wasps aren't color blind and supposedly won't build nests on the blue ceiling.
Lots of old houses had sky blue porch ceings.

I’m definitely seeing less activity outside despite my pool being a water source for them. This is normally the time of year when the red wasps become more aggressive because of dwindling food supplies, so I’m not missing their absence. .

All you gotta do is get a cup big enough to cover the wasps nest. Pour enough gas in the bottom of the cup where the gas comes up about an inch or two at the bottom. Hold the cup over the wasps nest to the building that the nest is on. The fumes from the gas will make them dizzy and they will fall into the gas at the bottom. And die instantly. You're welcome.
