You can blame state and federal govt incompetence going back to the 80s but thanks for your astute observations about the traffic
The fix won’t be easy as it’s easily 25 years of work just to get it functional

One bridge is not the solution when the. Infrastructure around city can’t support it

Have you ever tried driving in Boston? It makes Baton Rouge look like the open range.

Consolidating almost every state office building downtown is a huge part of the problem. Too many commuters coming from the Livingston and Ascension areas is another part of the problem. Both of these things contributed greatly to the Interstate congestion headed in and out of BR in the last 20 years.

When I commuted I took GS Road all the way down and then cut over to Florida Blvd. to get downtown. Keep it “difficult” to keep the masses out of Central and beyond. It’s bad enough and a quick route will bring more.

Wait, so you didn't take the new Washington St. exit that drops you into the bottoms of hell and effectively makes your car a sitting duck for all kinds of ghetto activities? I highly recommend it if you have the time and means next time.

A lot of locals avoid surface streets to take the interstate to get around town. That doesn't help traffic issues.

Of course; it’s running through the middle of our city. But the next time you’re sitting in BR interstate gridlock, pay attention to the percentage of cars you see taking local exits versus just staying in the gridlock. You’ll have a few clueless idiots, but for the most part, the interlopers are still sitting on the interstate long after Google Maps told the locals to stay off.
