It takes several months for cats to get used to each other. Give them treats together, so they associate the treats with each other. Give them separate food and water dishes and litter boxes so they don’t feel like they have to stake out territory. ETA one cat might try to steal the other’s treats so make sure each gets to eat theirs.

Keep them separated by a door (either outside or inside) where they can smell each other but not attack each other.

If it’s done through a storm door/screen door where they can see each other, they may hiss and growl but try not to interfere while they size each other up.

Give them treats and/or food at the door where they can still smell and/or see the other cat.

Makes them associate the other cat with food and positive reinforcement.

Cats are so weird and territorial. My 7 year old cat has finally accepted my girlfriend after about 4 month. At first he was curious about her, then decided he didn’t like her, and now has reached the acceptance stage. He lets her pet him and occasionally shows his belly for scratches. He never runs away from her anymore.

I think the coolest think about my cat is his ability to tell accurate time. I work from home and get off around 6. This dude comes meowing in my office at 5:55 (give or take 3 minutes) damn near every day.

He gets fed as soon as I get off so he’s just as eager as I am for 6:00. Crazy accuracy.

Same with my cat. 5 minutes before 6:30 alarm goes off every morning he meows his head off. He gets fed when we wake up. Even Saturday and Sunday. He does not care that there is no alarm on weekends

Yep. He eats when I wake up too and if I’m not up at 7:30, he just starts walking on top of me until I get up.

I’m sure you can think of a solution that doesn’t involve putting a litter box in your bedroom

If you’re gonna have 2 cats I’d highly recommend a Litter Robot. Totally worth the price.

I just hate how depressed Lolo seems. She has been spoiled for 8.5 years. That said, Sophie seems to be living it up in the backyard.

You may just have to make it a point to give her some extra attention and cuddles for awhile.

We have had a long series of cats who adopted us. The females haven't been related and most of them only tolerate the others. Some sisters didn't even like each other. Then a feral momma cat drove away all but two of her kittens, two boys who groomed each other and shared (just like their Father and his brother). Now we have two boys who are not related, but who groom each other, who play tag, and who share rodent catches.

Some cats just get along with others, others fight all the rest but hang around by choice.

Get some Feliway bombs (diffusers) and put them in areas of your house where the cats spend much of their time. The scent/pheromone that is emitted really does a good job of chilling them out.

I've always been told that when introducing cats you keep them in separate rooms with the doors closed. Eventually they will both start playing through/under the door and get used to each other's scent. Then they are more likely to accept each other.

If Lolo was a woman...I would have texted my friend and said, "If I wind up dead...Lolo killed me."

She hates me!

Lolo looks tiny! She should be given treats/ extra time with you and whatever she wants. 8.5 yrs is. why-she cannot understand why the new cat is anywhere near inside the house. Let the other cat be your outside cat.
