The FAA investigates after Boeing says workers in South Carolina falsified 787 inspection records

quote:

The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday it has opened an investigation into Boeing after the beleaguered company reported that workers at a South Carolina plant falsified inspection records on certain 787 planes. Boeing said its engineers have determined that misconduct did not create “an immediate safety of flight issue.”

In an email to Boeing’s South Carolina employees on April 29, Scott Stocker, who leads the 787 program, said a worker observed an “irregularity” in a required test of the wing-to-body join and reported it to his manager.

“After receiving the report, we quickly reviewed the matter and learned that several people had been violating Company policies by not performing a required test, but recording the work as having been completed,” Stocker wrote.

Boeing notified the FAA and is taking “swift and serious corrective action with multiple teammates,” Stocker said.

No planes have been taken out of service, but having to perform the test out of order on planes will slow the delivery of jets still being built at the final assembly plant in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Who needs pesky inspections on an airplane? I bet people on Alaska Airlines Flight 261 wish that the maintenance had not been skipped. I wonder if any of the responsible parties were DEI hires

Send everything back to Everett. It is tragic what has happened to Boeing the last 10 years.

IMO, it's just a case of upper management pounding the edict of 'under budget and on time' in the era of the Airbus race. And when sirens are sounded by blue collars, they're ignored and threatened. Until Boeing needs a fall guy.

Had a client tell me their dad was in hospice on his death bed and was still getting calls from his employer (boeing) because they couldn't figure out which types of nuts/bolts to use when putting together the planes.

Mind blowing.

Boeing psy-oping big time so they get minimal blowback when they do mass layoffs and implement AI manufacturing and inspection

Never thought I’d see the day where I root hard for Airbus over Boeing. They need a complete reboot but they are essentially the Federal Aerospace Manufacturing Agency so it won’t happen

What will that do when the problem is with HQ in Chicago?

Doesn’t matter where they build the planes if the suits in Chicago don’t give a frick about quality.

HQ moved to DC area.

The 737 is built 100% in Seattle, the 787 has not crashed yet. 10 years+ of flights.

I dont believe the bolts story, EVERYTHING part and standard is on the Bill of Materials. The pencil whipping is rampant.

Boeing needs to get back to having pilots and engineers in charge with marketing, stock brokers, lawyers and business people in a supporting role.

Yeah, DEI has its consequences too.

Immediate as in today or next week?

quote:

“The company voluntarily informed us in April that it may not have completed required inspections to confirm adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage on certain 787 Dreamliner airplanes,” the agency said in a written statement. “The FAA is investigating whether Boeing completed the inspections and whether company employees may have falsified aircraft records.”

Oh, it’s just where the wings attach to the fuselage.

For a minute there I was worried.
