Apparently 18 year old Betty was truly destitute.

But with the help of generous folks on the internet looks like she has made a nice recovery:

Hopefully it works out for Betty.

Hopefully someone with good intentions for her helps with shelter and a job. Always some POS around the corner waiting to take advantage of a person like this

That’s terrible. We don’t do near enough in this country to deal with mental health.

Unfortunately politicians on both sides are focused on everything except what’s important to make a difference.

Betty will need a mentor. Someone to teach her how to at least hold down a job and earn a basic living, if she has the mental capacity for that.

Well, in the update video she says she left the rehab because she "didn't feel like her government team was doing the things she needed at the time".

She sounds like one that doesn't follow through with what she is supposed to do to better her situation. She also said she had mental health issues in the original video so she should probably be in some sort of adult group home or something. Sad, but that is probably the best her life would ever get if she truly does have mental health issues and can't or won't work to better them.

18 years old and has definitely already been through more shite than I ever will and she still has many years to go. We take so much for granted. I need to show my kids this video. Especially my daughter who rolled her eyes at me this morning because I told her she had too much makeup on. We don't realize how good we have it.

If you really want to help these people (and unless they want help it's almost useless) you have to take extreme measures.

Take them to an isolated, structured environment away from their territory. Cut off their contact with all but a few monitored people. Feed them well, and ensure no drugs get in. Have a good positive program and support system.

I mean, rehab, but good rehab. Long term. And then you have to release those who are just on streets into a new environment where they have a stable system, a job, positive influences and encouragement to stay sober.

and take that one step further, you have to have to keep an close eye on the rehab-ees and weed out. the bad ones and keep them away from the good ones that truly want help and are trying desperately to seek improvement

Oh, man that hurts me. 18. She needs to be on a ranch somewhere taking care of animals and getting fresh air away from the streets.

It's a great story and hope she maintains but the odds are against her unless she maintains the support/help.

Agreed.

Bad apples spoil the bunch and often cause others to relapse
