Anyone else not on speaking terms with a parent?

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, both my parents are deceased but my stepdad is still around and he is wonderful. I would give almost anything to be able to talk to my Mom and biological Dad though. I hope it gets worked out before it's too late.

Cheated on my dad, skipped town, stole 3k from me.

My mother is a long term alcoholic who has no relationship with three of her four children. I think I’ve spoken to her once in the past five years.

Damn, that really sucks. I'm very close with my mother. I couldn't imagine not having a relationship with her.

My Mom passed three years ago but I barely speak with my Dad. Functional alcoholic and highly abusive (physically and emotionally). He also has not let me have any of my Mom’s things since she died.

At his best he’s the guy that will decide not to tip the waitress at dinner if they didn’t put enough salt on his margarita glass. So absolutely miserable to be around.

I haven’t talked to my Mom in 10 years. I got tired of the woe is me, no one loves me narcissistic guilt trip BS that she’d throw at me every time I talked to her.

To give you an idea of her personality. My sister was in a really bad mountain biking accident and ended up in serious condition in the ER. My mom got pissed at every in the hospital because they wouldn’t be give her enough attention, make her the center of attention and treat her anxiety.

I haven’t talked to my dad in eight years. I still talk to my mom (they’re still married).

He’s an alcoholic (although my mom tells me he quit drinking a couple years ago). He was always volatile and is pretty mean to everyone he supposedly cares about.

No hard feelings but his behavior over the last decade has indicated that he doesn’t want a relationship with me and I don’t have the energy for a one-sided relationship.

Loved both my parents and miss my dad (died at 97 y.o., still sharp). Mom is 100 and her memory loops a bit, but otherwise good. They were great parents, us three kids all turned out fine and are also quite close.

I see dysfunctional families all around and know we were blessed with great parents and a little lucky as well.
