As others have suggested, you really have nothing to gain by being a dick except regret. Don't let the way that he is control how you handle it. You'll walk away knowing that you're in the right, and that he's still suffering from whatever made him the way that he is.

I have had to deal with some odd characters over the years and a few hotheads. I’ve always tried to remain professional and just try to keep my thoughts to myself. Especially if angry -

Yep. I was coming to ask the same question. OP’s boss may not even realize it. OP may be the problem. Who knows? What I do know is the book below should be read by all.

I've worked with plenty but most I learned to respect. It all depends what type of a-hole he is. It's the sneaky backstabbers I hated.

If you are leaving be a man and go tell him. Let the chips fall where they may.

I recently switched jobs and the boss I gave my notice to was a prick. He took it pretty good surprisingly.

I worked for a guy that was both corrupt and an a-hole.
I quit because I couldn't be a part of it... he paid me a severance under the terms that I wouldn't talk to customers.

Oh, and I got a call from the GBI that same week.
They were doing some shady stuff with accounting and employment of migrants, etc etc...

Like I said last week, I’m getting ready to resign from my current job. My boss is a dick so it’ll be interesting to see what his reaction is. I’m guessing he will be angry.

How should I go about resigning? Any of you ever had a situation like this and how did you go about resigning? Should I be a dick or should I keep it completely professional?

I would just drag up and keep it at that. It ain't worth getting worked up over. I have cussed them and nearly come to fisticuffs and it just ain't worth it.

Never burn a bridge!

I’ve been in the workforce since the 80s in some capacity and fortunate to have mostly great bosses.

I've worked for some people who were so awful that I've been tempted to get a job there again just so I could quit again.

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door
Burning bridges lost forevermore.....
