When you resign, do everything possible to make things easy for the boss.

Speak nothing but kind and helpful words. Do not criticize your boss, the company or coworkers.

Offer to help with the transition any way you can, short of working beyond your notice period.

I had once an idiot boss ask me to fire several people before I left, and I did so without complaint.

Give a very understandable reason for leaving, and to the extent possible make it seem like it's nobody's fault.

If you handle this correctly you might be able to make the boss feel at least a little sad about losing you.

That's the only way to make that dipshit suffer.

You should get together with a couple of your buddies who also have horrible bosses, hire a murder consultant named Dean "Motherfricker" Jones, then kill each other's bosses. Don't kill your own or motive can be tied back to you. Be sure to make the deaths look like accidents.

Not trying to one-up anyone here but... Had a lab janitor that was a really nice solid guy. He sat in his little closet office and read the bible at breaks and lunch. Really quite, but had a great sense of humor. A little older than most of us and much wiser. He had a heart attack and died in the lab. No forewarning. Lab manager, who had worked with him 20 years, said that the janitor embarrassed the lab by dieing there.

Professional.

And trust me, no matter how much you think it will feel good to light him up in whatever exit you do, it won’t change anything and do nothing but tarnish your reputation.

Keep it professional. You don't know who's going to be at a future job, as either a colleague or a client.

When he asks you if you have that spreadsheet prepared tell him you had his wife spread out on the sheets last night.

But seriously, be professional about it.

If you work long enough. 1:4 is the manager a-hole ratio for me. Most are good peeps.

Once upon a time, the parts of the body had a discussion about who should be the boss of the body.

The brain spoke up and said the body is unable to live without me. I should be the boss. The heart spoke up and said the same thing, followed by the lungs, stomach, liver, you get the idea.

A loud, irritating sound was heard, it was the rectum saying that he was the boss. All the other parts laughed at the rectum. The rectum said now I will show you who should be boss. He squeezed up tight and refused to do his job. After 3 days, all of the other parts except the brain were willing to name the rectum as the boss of the body except for the brain. At the 5th day, the brain gave in and agreed that the rectum should be the boss.

The lesson of this story is you do not have to be a brain in order to be the boss, you just need to be an a-hole.

I had an a-hole boss at a public school teaching job I used to have. I called him Butthole behind his back. Pretty soon the whole town was doing the same. I wasn't the only person who thought he was a jackass. I just let him know that I was leaving public education for the private sector.

How long has your boss been with company? how large is company? How much would you like your job is you had a great boss? How marketable are you ?

Answer those questions and you are on the right path.

If it truly is unbearable- look for another position.

Tip- when you are job interviewing make sure you include interview of your boss- A great job opportunity can sour quickly if you have a horrible boss.
