That’s one reason this is kinda silly to arrest someone for.
Here’s another. A 19 yo can’t be with a 16 yo, but as soon as she turns 17 every swinging dick is fair game? How does that make any sense? Wouldn’t a 40 yo banging her in a few months be a bigger problem than what these two teenagers were doing?
Idk the solution but the status quo is illogical.

Feels like the law should include some kind of buffer year(s) to cover this kind of situation. Like other have said, this 3 yr gap which imo isn’t that big to begin with considering holding kids especially boys back is much more commonplace could be MUCH smaller depending on when their respective birthdays are.

I agree the inappropriate picture sending via social media is shady and probably is the reason this amped things up.

Texas has a 3 year buffer when one of the participants is between 14 and 16 years and 364 days. Seventeen is completely fair game. You'd be shocked at the number of parents that drag their 16 year old daughters into the police station to try to file charges against her 18 year old boyfriend when they find out they've been fricking.
