This is the type of pick you make when you have a roster in decent shape and a surplus of picks. We have neither of those. QB flier when you can fill depth on the lines is so dumb

Honestly, this is loser talk. You take a flier on QB in every draft until you have one. 5th round pick?

I wanted Wingo, can’t believe he’s still on the board. Rattler has talent, was the number one hs qb years ago. Nice gamble pick this late. I just wanted Wingo.

It’s not like we are one player away from anything. I don’t mind taking flyer on him. It’s a value pick.

They had a load of picks today and the whole day is a giant crap shoot. Why not? Finding a Puka or Purdy today is just flat out luck.

I really like the pick in the 5th round, & we still have 2 more picks to go in this round.

Pre-Draft Analysis Rattler was productive despite protection issues and the lack of a consistent ground game in his two seasons at South Carolina. He has the physical traits -- starting with his arm strength and quick release -- to develop into an NFL starter. He can drive the ball downfield and rip passes into tight windows. Rattler did not test well at the combine, but he has the quick feet to escape collapsing pockets and extend plays on tape. -- Steve Muench

Exactly. It's the fifth round, the vast majority of these guys never make it beyond special teams.

No major melt... Just seems like a waste of a pick. The idea of him being a starter seems like a major long shot

Honestly it’s more far fetched brick purdy is a starting qb in the league than Rattler if you asked anyone two years ago….

Was hoping for Rice or Wingo, but him in the 5th is not bad value

Exactly what this team needed, another long shot to ever see the field QB.

I'm glad team leadership knows not to draft possible depth pieces for every other position on the field.

It would be 3 years in a row.

While other great gms are finding starters in the 4th and 5th rounds, the saints are drafting Ian book

I'm going to be pissed when one of these receivers hit. Thrash or rice.

He would’ve been there in the 7th

I would've liked the Wingo pick, but I'm not sure why people are melting over a QB pick in the 5th that has a chance? We still have 2 more picks and we could get Wingo/DL or another OL.

I know he had attitude problems coming out of high school and everybody thought he was an a-hole due to his Netlix (?) show, but I heard him interviewed a couple of times in Senior Bowl and was really impressed. Seemed to have really been humbled. Came off very smart and mature. Didn't see him play much at South Carolina, though. Don't know about his physical tools. But as highly ranked as he was out of high school, he's got to at least have some. Enough to maybe push Heaner for the backup role. If not this year, than maybe next. A backup QB on a 5th round rookie deal would be fantastic value.

We'll have another chance at him but probably pass on him again.

Why should anyone melt? Low risk high reward here. Not like they spent a 1st or 2nd on him.

I'm ok with this. I would have rather taken Jordan Travis. But Spencer is a former 5 star QB out of highschool.

Perhaps there's enough tools that he can be developed into a quality starting quarterback down the road.
