It’s actually a pretty good comp, if he has anywhere near a Cutler career…..it’s a GREAT pick. But people need to temper expectations a bit. The more I have read and highlights I’ve watched, I like him much more as a prospect than a year ago.

BUT, his biggest problem has been consistency. The talent is definitely there though

Scouts miss all the time, especially at the quarterback position. The number one qb in total qbr last year was mr irrelevant. Rattler was the number one qb coming out of high school. It’s not like he’s a nobody.

That does not equate to scouts missing all the time though. That’s an exception. Scouts miss on a ton of picks taken early in a negative manner. It almost never goes the other way when you factor in how many guys get taken each year. The same exception used by both replies to my post shows just how rare it is. If we get a career backup out of rattler that’ll be awesome.

Based on Underhill’s article on him, a lot of his flaws are things that can be coached up. He locks into one receiver too often and got away with some throws he shouldn’t have because of his arm. He’s gotta work on reading the field but he’s shown flashes of being able to scan well when he has time.

He’s got the arm, the moxie in the pocket and moves around it well. If he can just sit this year and learn from Kubiak and improve, this will be his team next year.

Why? By all measures he had a third round grade. He has just as much of a shot hitting and becoming our QB of the future the way Dak (4th round) Cousins (4th round) and Purdy (last pick) hit.

Provided Kubiak develops him and Rattler improves. As it stands now, yeah he’s probably a career backup. But he improved a lot from OU to South Carolina. If he continues that trajectory, he’ll be in good shape and could be our guy. I always hate when fans say shite like “temper expectations” or “we can’t look ahead on the schedule” LOL we’re fricking fans. This is what we do and there’s nothing wrong with believing the guy can turn into a top 10-12 QB like Cousins and Dak when he has the talent to do exactly that. But just like everything in the NFL, especially at QB, it’s about hard work and having it up top. He clearly knew he needed to change his attitude and get better as a player and leader. And he did that.

Not the one bitching.
My comment was exactly as I posted.
There is no question he is sitting for a year or two.
Please give a counter argument.

Rattler isn’t nearly good-looking enough to be the face of an NFL franchise. All the women and gay dudes will have a fit. Lol

If any player makes the roster as 5th round pick, it's a good thing. If he's QB2 after camp, that's an A+ selection.

sc might've had the worst oline in the sec. he did a great job considering the competition he faced. he had good wrs while he was there, but pretty much ran for his life the whole time. i think it will serve him well in the league.

So basically he was tailor made to be a Saints QB.

if he's a threat to Carr the Saints will probably cut him and go with Peterman as the backup who is no threat to Carr and is guaranteed to provide no value as the backup
