Richmond Fontaine.
They didnt't help themselves by not touring beyond the West and Northwest but man they are criminally underrated.

Old 97's. Their catalogue can fit into multiple genres, If you like music, you can find something from them to like. The back to back albums of Fight Songs and Satellite Rides are as good of a 1-2 as I know from anyone.
Teenage Fanclub. The biggest crime here is, anyone writing about them talks mostly about Norman Blake. The better songsmith is Gerry Love.

Spot on. The use of the double bass is phenomenal, and their overall style is compelling.
