Blinded by the Light is about jerking off. Seriously. Did you not know that? And if you look at the words really closely, it’s kind of clear.

It’s one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite bands (which is my stock answer anytime someone asks about bands that should be bigger than they are), but I never thought “Blue” by the Jayhawks made any sense.

It's a little more than that. All of the references are about the things that Springsteen experienced while starting out in his own band on the Jersey shore, and the transition to finally making it to the big time..." a silicon sister with her mannequin mister told me I got what it takes...". The "calliope crashed to the ground" probably refers to the calliope at the Jersey shore boardwalk, and the fact that he was finally moving on, musically. Just my opinion...

Ozzy

I can see through mountains watch me disappear, I can even tough the sky, swallowing colors of the sound I hear, am I just a crazy guy you bet.

Or another Beck song…

Where it’s at?

I personally love the imagery of this line,

Not a whole song but there is a line in Love Will Find a Way by Yes that bugs the ever loving shite out of me.

Here is my heart, waiting for you
here is my soul, I eat at Chez Nous

I mean it's not like Jon Anderson couldn't find another word that rhymed with you.

OK let me maybe not backtrack completely but take a small step back from what I said about “Blinded by the Light.” In “The Book of Rock Lists” which I own, it’s listed at No. 6 on “The Greatest Songs About Masturbation.” I always figured the deal about the adolescent pumping into his hat confirmed that.

However, I’ve found some other stuff about the song online that says Bruce simply went crazy with a rhyming dictionary and some of the images are from his childhood. Basically, only Bruce knows for sure I guess.

Other songs on that list, for the record, include Pictures of Lily, In My Room, Whip It, Whole Lot Of Shakin’, The Stroke, Whole Lot of Rosie, Imaginary Lover, Only The Lonely and, of course, She Bop, I Touch Myself, Rattlesnake Shake, Rocks Off and Captain Jack.

From Lennon re>You Know My Name …

“That was a piece of unfinished music that I turned into a comedy record with Paul. I was waiting for him in his house, and I saw the phone book was on the piano with 'You know the name, look up the number.' That was like a logo, and I just changed it.”

Hey Jude. I have no freaking idea what "the movement you need is on your shoulder" means.

McCartney actually sang it wrong, it was supposed to be of your shoulder, but when he heard the playback he decided to let it be.

ON EDIT: I actually remembered the details wrong, it’s corrected down below.

Per Paul it was a filler lyric he intended to change later, but John told him to keep it b/c it was "the best line in the song."

You are right, I remembered it incorrectly. I need to make sure I have the Lewisohn recording sessions book handy when I try to talk Beatles.

And it is a damn good album. I’ve had it for years. Now I’m gonna have to go listen to it again!

Ask Manfred Mann to ask Springsteen what it all means.
