He showed up for the studio time that was scheduled after The Last Waltz. The others didn’t. Because they wanted to stay on the road. And he didn’t.

Because they got paid to be on the road and RR was vacuuming up all the songwriting royalties. If he had been more generous with some of that, they would have stayed together at least another decade and potentially 4 or 5 more albums, IMHO.

I think it was more that they were road dogs who loved that life and loved that kind of music and Robbie had outgrown that life and that kind of music and didn’t want to do it anymore. He did some TV appearances and I think maybe a couple of one-off stage appearances, but the man in the remaining 47 years of his life after The Last Waltz never toured or played regularly live ever again. Is that a capital offense?

of course not
all many are saying here (and have been saying for those 47 years) is that he could have been more careful about it

that’s all

I’ve been listening to the complete basement tapes on repeat all weekend. The sheer brilliance of it makes me so sad that it’s gone, and so thankful that it happened

RIP robbie

He also produced what I think is Neil Diamond's best studio album 'Beautiful Noise'

That's why Neil is in The Last Waltz in the first place - RR insisted he be included

Originally the only guest stars were to be Ronnie Hawkins & Dylan, but St. Robbie demanded it become all star show, to get more publicity for his screen test.

It worked.

And I don’t say that because Neil Diamond joined in. Not a huge fan of that cat.

But gimme Dr. John and Muddy Watttttaaaas all night long.

I've always wanted the drugs that Van Morrison was on during Caravan.

He wrote most of the songs brosef.

All this talk has me interested in digging deeper than the main three songs I knew by them. Started on Spotify and never realized that they originally did Atlantic City. I’ve started the Classic Albums episode on their second album.

Any other recommendations for songs that’ll knock my socks off? Appreciate it in advance.

Yep, my bad - I knew he performed it but I didn’t know The Band had reformed after they broke up and recorded it.
