This is a great book, if anyone is interested in a quick read into the life of the Man in Black.

I apologize for the lines on the words, my daughter wanted to use the quote for a school project. But… she’s 11 and interested in all things Cash so I can’t be mad at it.

He nailed the pandering. Anyone paying attention may have seen it coming for Nashville country. Maybe it’s the way it’s always been.

That was in 1997. Imagine if he lived long enough to bear witness to this modern bro country garbage.

Cash wasn’t half as good as Luke Bryan or Morgan Wallen. Both have taken country music to new heights and greatness.

Douche chills would cover his whole body.

It wasn’t even that bad in 97, he’s probably talking about Tim McGraw and others like him.

i lived in nashville in 1997 and got to see the legendary "Johnny Cash would like to thank the country music industry for their support" flip-off billboard on my way to work every day in front of Music Row.

eta here's the magazine ad used for the billboard

In 97 could you tell it was turning to complete dogshit or as Sturgill labeled it a couple years ago, a “Botox cake and cockpony show!” ? Haha.

it was all the talk back then. and the billboard had the opposite effect, all those millionaire music executives on music row just got tickled driving past it to work every day.

It’s like the Ray Wylie Hubbard song Conversation with the Devil …. “What you won’t find up in heaven are Christian coalition right wing conservatives, country program directors and Nashville record executives!”

It's more about the state of people.
I have good friends that won't leave the house, unless they're wearing a pair of nice cowboy boots.

The musicians on this are so good. Might be the most disciplined banjo player I've ever heard.
This reply was supposed to be in the Charles Wesley Godwin thread.
Don't know how it ended up here.
