saw an interview where he said the set will be mostly his new album that just came out plus a few post-waters Floyd tunes. He definitively said no 70s music at all

Gross. Imagine going to a Gilmour concert and not hearing him play Time.

It’s a great idea for the venues he plays. Will keep restroom and concession lines at an even level throughout. No worries about the “something from my new album” beer and bathroom rush.

I wonder if he has to pay royalties to Waters-written songs

not to play anything Live he shouldn't.

many years ago I met and had a conversation with Randy Owen (lead singer of Alabama).

typically the venues all have basically a blanket license type thing that covers pretty much every song ever to make sure they are covered to legally play any song they want.
that why football, basketball, baseball games can all play whatever they feel like playing during games, etc.

that license covers all music played inside the venue.

so theoretically, Gilmour could go on stage and play Taylor Swift's entire catalogue and not owe her a dime if he wanted to.

Thanks for the info, that's interesting. I guess it still might irk him to have to sing Rog's lyrics. Or he just wants to promote his new stuff and move on.

I saw Plant on his first tour and he played 0 LZ songs. It was still a good show.

I've been thinking about what a set list would look like and it could enjoyable, especially if it's a smaller venue. I can't see swinging a trip to London as much as I'd like to see what's probably his final tour.

all of that may be true, but surely he has to understand that 99% of the audience is only there to hear Pink Floyd songs from the 60s and 70s. Maybe a random song or two from the post-waters era. Nobody in that room is gonna be shoulting out "give us some endless river!". Despite whatever personal differences him and roger have, if the reason he is even doing this show is for the fans, he needs to undrestand what the fans actually wnat.

On the flipside, if the motivation is "I like playing in front of people so here's all the shite that I want to play and I don't care whether you like or not, but I will give you the opportunity to come see me do it in person, but this is definitely more for me than it is for you" then I guess I don't have as muhc issue wiht it, since people are going to be warned ahead of time.

Looks like 2 venues in the states. 2 in Madison Square Gardens in November and 2 in Los Angeles in late October

Could he have picked 2 worse places to travel to? shite

Having to travel to NY or LA for no 70s PF songs….woof

I’ll probably try to get tickets to one of the MSG shows though
He’s on my bucket list

I would've thought the same, but man I can't drop a couple thousand on flights/lodging/tickets to hear him play shite I have zero interest in. If he was playing the full catalogue I'd make a serious case with myself to attempt to be there.

ETA: the LA show is on Tuesday/Wednesday and the NY show is a Monday/Tuesday. Yeesh.

i would 100% go see him play stuff that is not 70's PF. The later stuff is good and some of his solo stuff is excellent. But

NYC would be my only options and there is no way in hell I will be in New York City on election day this year. No fricking way. You cant avoid it for ether date he is playing there.

As far as bucket list thing, I honestly think this is it if you want to do that. He is 78 years old. I dont see him touring again. Really sucks because I want to go but no way I'm going to new your city on election day and frick Los Angeles. Not going there any time

Once again, I guess I will have to pass.

I think he’s just tired of it all. Especially now Wright has passed

Why ? Waters is in fruitloop land, Mason seemingly doesn't care, and Wright is dead. It's time for the lazer show to be put to bed. An 80 year old Gilmore, and his daughter no doubt, with a backup nobody band seems sacrilegious. Sort of like Fred Zeppelin.

His show would still be worth going to for me. If not being in New York on election night.

Id be going. I like his solo stuff and I loved the 90's floyd

This. I saw him on the Rattle That Lock tour so that will have to do. These dates are terrible.

he toured very recently with “saucerful of secrets” playing Barrett era Floyd. And by all accounts it was awesome

I wish Mason's band would come to the US, unfortunately it looks like they only go to the UK and Europe.

The absolute best rock show I've ever seen was David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. He's coming back this Oct, might have to see him one last time.
