Surprising pick. One of the best songs on a solid album.

roughly 80 to 85 percent of all live Dark Stars and probably 90 to 95 percent of all Drums/Space, particularly the Space parts

You suck at the Grateful Dead. You probably love Wave to the Wind.

DMB - Crash and Ants Marching

Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

I was going to list Hotel California and a few other Eagles songs, then I realized I probably just don't like the Eagles that much.

France - The Grateful Dead ..... where the Fk that song came from I have no clue, especially releasing it on side 1 of Shakedown Street. Arguably the worst GD song EVER, which has never been performed live.

i've heard somewhere that weir needed another song for the album (all he had were "miracle", and the two re-hashed covers), so hunter threw together some lyrics to a melody that mickey had been working on and told bobby to do whatever he wanted with it

bobby certainly did that

I'm so Hot For Her is made at a time when Keith and Mick were essentially at war with each other.

Again, Wave to the Wind waves hello. Way to go Home is also up there.

France is okay. I don’t care what members of the Dead say about it. (I haven’t heard Donna weigh in.) Maybe it didn’t live up to their expectations. And it doesn’t sound like a typical Dead song. But there’s nothing wrong with the song, imo. It’s got some complex drumming and I like the sound of the steel drums. And Donna’s vocals are fine. She was great in the studio when she could hear herself, and great in post-Jerry incarnations of the band when the in-ear monitoring system they helped pioneer gave her the same advantage, not like when she wound up shrieking during the Wall of Sound era. (More prevalent in PITB...she was great in LL Rain.)

Also, as much as I love Brent Mydland, Blow Away wasn’t really that great of a song. And the rap portion was extremely weak. “What do you think your rib cage is? A jail cell?” is one of the worst improvised lyrics I’ve ever heard.

the shakedown street album is due for a little reappraisal. Not a lot but some. This was Mickey’s best album he’s all over it with cool percussion and polyrhythms.

Brent’s songs were treacly garbage. Great player but not a bandleader
