Yeah, this one was equally as good as the last couple, and as mentioned Atwell is great.

And they do a great job of stopping the movie in a good spot for the second part to pick up at, which was refreshing. This was a nice contrast compared to Across the spiderverse and Fast 10, which both films just kinda half-arse stop randomly in the middle.

Do I need to watch the other movies to enjoy this one?

I'd watch 5 (rogue nation) and 6 (fallout) first just because it would add a bunch to the movie. Watching the first one would be good too, but not essential outside of having a callback to a certain character.

I saw this movie earlier today. I think the villain is a good choice. His connection to Ethan Hunt is intriguing. Now if they fail to give a more complete backstory and how he fully connects to Hunt, I will be disappointed.

I found the action scenes incredible and the pacing was great. Never felt like I was in a movie that was as long as it was. Haley Atwell, Pom, and Vanessa Kirby are all stunning to look at and fantastic in their roles. Will watch again before it leaves the theatres.

Yep. Just got out of it with my son. Lots of fun and the last act was just fantastic. It’s just under three hours and it never felt like it dragged.

They chose wisely. I had to look up who Paris was and saw that it was Mantis from GotG.

Just an another great movie from Cruise. The guy is at his peak right now and I’m glad to be able to see it.

Have we seen him and the girl he killed in the other movies? I couldn’t remember if that is from an earlier movie or was brought up for the first time.

No, this is the first movie they’ve appeared in. It’s never been mentioned before. What happened between him and Gabriel apparently occurred before he joined the IMF.

Enjoyed it . Maybe not as much as fallout

Hayley atwell.. goodness.. I was unfamiliar with her game… but she is a stunner.

One caveat: and it’s all I could think about but during the Venice sequence, it looked like she was wearing the puffy shirt from Seinfeld and I couldn’t not see it

Also: Apex mountain for the Spanish stairs in Rome. With this movie and the Fiat and Fast X with Dom driving down them to save the city from the bomb. All in one summer !

As of 8:51 CDT on 7/13 RT is currently showing 96% with a 95% audience score.

Both are too low (kinda joking).

This movie was awesome. Out of the 2 1/2 hours there were maybe 30 minutes of non-action dialogue (probably more but it seemed like non-stop action the whole time). The movie was quite intense with great cinematography and acting.

As others mentioned, Hayley Atwell does a fantastic job and definitely gets to stretch her wings and not just beautiful but shows she is also a really good physical actor.

Part 1 ended at a great spot and can't wait for part 2!! Saw it on IMAX and will try to see it again before it leaves the theater.

Wife and I saw it last night. We both walked away wanting to see it again this weekend. We were on the edge of our seats from the beginning. Atwell was so good, although my wife complained she couldn't stop thinking of her as old Peggy Carter. That entire train set was so well done. I had seen the YouTube video on the making of the jump and it still took my breath away.

My two negatives and they are very nitpicky:
Toward the end (basically when the White Widow gets involved), everything gets a little dense with the Entity, how they try to establish the final act, and also set the table for Part 2. I wish they would have left some ambiguity with how he learns about the Sub.

The other is with Gabriel and the small thread back to Ethan's past. I felt like they could have spent a few more minutes here on the background. It's the point that made Ethan who he is and felt more or less like it was rushed and we never connected that thread well enough.

I wonder if they will hit $250mm global in the first week with this one? It was wild being in a packed theater late at night... on a Tuesday.

I suspect we’ll get more of the backstory in Part 2.

Here’s some speculation: Shea Whigam’s character is named Jasper Briggs. As viewers of the original TV show know, the first team leader was Dan Briggs (who left after the first season). At one point in Dead Reckoning, it is hinted that Jasper has some personal issue with Ethan. What if Jasper’s father was Dan Briggs, and that Dan was somehow involved in recruiting Ethan into the IMF and/or with what happened between Ethan and Gabriel in the past?

It's actually off to a slow start, but hopefully it picks up this weekend. It did get an A CinemaScore which is great

I'll give you a bigger nitpick, Whigham's hair annoyed me. Dudes hair looked like it belongs on a 20 year old.

Ethan also killed Jim Phelps (Voight) in the first movie. Might have been Briggs' godfather or something like that as Dan Briggs was probably friendly with Jim Phelps at some point?

There was that brief moment in the Rome chase where it looked like Shea Whigam was considering shooting Ethan when he was pinned down behind the car. They could tie it back into one through Phelps.

Loved the callbacks to the first movie with everything on the train.

Went to see it in IMAX and I’m glad I did. Hayley’s face being the size of my house was nice. She’s distractingly gorgeous. I can’t wait for part 2. Is this a spoiler thread?
