Dunkirk, zone of interest, Oppenheimer, imitation game, hacksaw ridge. All movies that are set around world war 2.

Let me preface by saying I enjoyed all of these movies and believe all should be viewed but For me I’d go:
1. Dunkirk
2. Zone of interest
3. Imitation game
4. Oppenheimer
5. Hacksaw ridge

5 very different movies. All during WW2, but wildly different dynamics and themes.

Hacksaw ridge
Oppenheimer
Imitation game
Dunkirk

I haven’t seen Zone of interest

I've only seen three, and I'd rank them in personal quality as:

Oppenheimer
Dunkirk
Hacksaw Ridge

Never seen ZoI or IG.

That being said, like you said they are really different movies, so it's hard to actually rank them since it depends on what kind of movie you want to watch.

Probably depends on whether we're using an entertainment/quality/rewatch metric.

For all around, I'd probably go:

1. Oppenheimer
2. Dunkirk
3. Imitation Game
4. Hacksaw Ridge

I've only seen the first 30 minutes of Zone of Interest. I like all four of those movies. I rank Hacksaw Ridge last because there is some odd disneyfied thing going on with it and 1917 I can't really put my finger on and don't really care for. Maybe something to do with CGI, not sure (I do like both movies)

1. Zone of Interest
2. Dunkirk
3. Oppenheimer

Now I watched Zone of Interest the last of those, so there may be some recency bias. I did watch Oppenheimer just prior, though.

4. Imitation Game
5. Hacksaw Ridge

Dunkirk & Hacksaw Ridge.are the only two I've seen. Liked both. Liked Dunkirk better.. Maybe just because of the scale of the whole battle, including the number of people. They were able to develop many characters instead of just one. That allowed them to tell many stores.

Same. Technically Dunkirk is the best of the bunch but it strangely didn't move me for such momentus event in history.

Imitation is second for me, for telling a story well.

Oppenheimer is last because the story wasn't told well. Read the Making of the Atomic Bomb. Its a film that a puppy lost its way.

Dunkirk didn’t do much for me either. The movie was fine but I never get past that at the end of the day, we are celebrating a retreat.

That could be a subconscious factor on why the movie doesn't work.

The miracle at Dunkirk!....ehh....the Germans took their foot off the gas and let the English slither away.

And the movie doesn't even remotely dramatize it as a compelling heroic retreat.

Maybe Hacksaw Ridge should be #1 but that movie went too saccharin.
