We're one step closer to some media titan offering one streaming service with ALL the channels, thereby reinventing... cable.

Cable, but without the ease of just changing channels, which is a huge fricking deal for live sports.

And most importantly for the companies themselves: Cable but without the residuals owed to the actors.

I thought they addressed all of that in the latest SAG-AFTRA contract. Streaming residuals were a major point of contention.

The thing I'd be all for is the lack of $50/mo in bullshite FCC fees & taxes. That's the #1 reason we switched from Xfinity to YouTubeTV + Fiber internet (AT&T)

Max is a shite service. Combining it with another shite service ain't gonna help.

I haven't watched a single Discovery-branded program since they forced that shite on us and killed the HBO name

I hope they keep the apps separate. I don't like the Hulu + Disney+ merged app at all.

I still use Hulu separately to send them a message.

They've already done that. Hulu offers all the channels you'd get with cable, minus the local access channels. And they are charging the same if not more than cox.

I still use Hulu separately. I have not been able to find Hulu live TV on the new app.

I had such high hopes for streaming but corporate greed and lack of innovation - just killed it.

We are right back where we started.

This sounds a lot like when Sears and K mart merged. Poorly run companies think merging with other poorly run companies will solve all their problems.

The main difference is lack of FCC regulation, which carries a metric frickton of fees along with it.

This is why all the cable carries aren't seeking to get out from under those fees. (After all, they're not just collecting them and passing them straight through from consumer to FCC - there's a markup on them). They're actively lobbying Congress to get the streaming companies ADDED as cable entities so they have to add the fees to their rates.

I remember when TV was free because commercials paid for the content. Cable came out and starting charging because they didn't have any commercials. Now we get to pay and watch commercials!
