Casting quotas will make it very difficult to ever have decent historical movies again if the movies are set in the western world. Any other culture will be fine.

Another film about Russian history or Anne Boleyn gets lost in the hundreds of monthly entertainment releases. Season it with anachronistic races/genders and you get at least the press about your casting choices. You also have the built-in excuse of being "ahead of the curve" when your project doesn't perform.

1- I loved this show in spite of it. It’s worth a watch.
2- The race swapping took me out every single time it showed up. Every. Single. Time. The showrunners also missed an opportunity to portray the actual racism against Chechens, Balkans, Tartars, and ethnic Asians.
I’m amazed the Socialists in Hollywood didn’t try to portray the Bolsheviks/Soviets as misunderstood idealists who had to turn to tyranny for the betterment of everyone.
I was very pleased to see a show that portrays Soviet Russia for the horror show it was.
